I'm wondering if someone more knowledgable could shed some light on how the new law applies to unlicensed massage spas. Im wondering if they're safe to work at and by safe I mean would I face any charges if found working in one, and if so what charges? I know they used to charge attendants with being an inmate of a common bawdy house but I'm not sure if that would still apply..

Don't work at an unlicensed place. There are hundreds of licensed options across Toronto & the GTA. You will get ticketed, the spa will get shut down, and that may or may not include police. With 25 Body Rub parlors, 1000+ Holistic Centers, and even more outside Toronto, enforcement has little tolerance for unlicensed anything. And really, anyone not willing to spend the $$ to get licensed isn't the kind of owner (or attendant) to be around.

Yup, you're mostly right. I have worked in both licensed and unlicensed establishments in the past and of course the licensed places were far better in every way compared to unlicensed however no need to assume I don't want to spend the money on a license. In fact anyone who doesn't get a license because it costs money should seriously reconsider getting one because it's worth it, however some people might not want to get licensed for other reasons.. If having a license didn't show on my record I'd get one tomorrow.

The old laws don't apply, you won't face criminal charges for working as an unlicensed attendant or escort.

You confuse bylaws and criminal code. It matters not whether you're licensed, not licensed or a unpaid intern for purposes of the crim code.

I was referring to the owners.

It doesn't show on a record.
