Who's favourite to win EURO 2004??

Sow who's gonna win Euro 2004 this summer??

My semi-finalists picks are:
Spain, France, Italy and Holland.

I'm picking Italy to win the whole thing.

Wait, let me guess, your Italian right?
Nope, Dutch.
But I dont think that 'Het Oranje' is good enough to win it all. Italy is quite strong this year. Probably be smart to put some $$$ on them.

France probably has the strongest squad at the moment but as the Players are burnt out, I think Italy might have a Shot.

(Funny nobody mentionned England....LOL)

:D

While we're on the topic, WTF is Galt anyway?

Germany, Italy, Holland & France are the final four on my list.
I could be wrong but I think it's impossible for Holland and Germany to be in the final 4 together. I'll double-check though.

You never know with England, one day they beat Germany 5-1 and the next day they tie Macedonia out of all countries.

Well let me f__ing tell you. EURO stands for European soccer championship. This year held in Portugal.
Behing the WC and the Olympics it is the 3rd largest sporting event in the world.

I would say France are still my favorites to take it this go around. I'd like to say England, but it's like Johnny says, you never know what you'll get with them. They never seem to get their first choice defenders in there either. Rio's suspended, Sol Campbell might need surgery, Woodgate's always injured, Southgate just doesn't get selected by Sven...

It's top two make it out of their group for the next phase though, right?

Top 2 go straight to the quarterfinals, you are right.

I'm hesitant to pick France because it'll be hard for them to reapeat and also look what happened to them in the World cup. They didnt even score 1 goal. Out they go!!!!

Also Holland, Germany and Czecho are in the group of Death (Group D of course). Should be interesting.

That was 2 years ago...

They are undefeated since 15 games..... I think they have a shot

Lots of people are discounting Germany but they could suprise a lot of people. Look for Ballack to have a strong tournament.

The Hammer
Italy stinks and wont win, their D is depleted other than Nesta, who do they have? nothing too impressive...and if Italy brings Inzaghi and Del Piero, they definitely wont win

I want Holland to win but I think France will rebound after that god awful world cup exit

Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini and Ferrara. Maldini and Ferrara are a bit over the hill but they may still contribute.
IMO Nesta and Cannavaro are in the top 5 of best european defenders.

Holland:

Above average in goal (vd Sar)
Two good defenders: Stam and Heitinga.
Very strong in midfield: Davids, Sneijder, vd Vaart, Robben.
And also very strong with 2 world class strikers:
v. Nistelrooy and Makaay.

Can they win?? I dunno, they have a choking tendency.
I'm hoping they will though!!!

Maldini has retired internationally since 2002 so he will not be at Euro.
The defense as it stands now is Cannavaro and Nesta central defenders and Panucci and someone else on the sides.
Cannavaro has had a poor season and Panucci is not that good. We'll see how they do.

Thanks a lot for moving my thread, Sheik!!!
Now I have to walk all the way from the Lounge
to the Sports section.

BTW I didnt know Maldini had retired, kida stupid since he's still contributing with Milan. Panucci is from Roma if I'm correct, dont know much about him. I still think Italy is strong especially with Totti and Cassano. And if thats not enough they got 2 world class goalies. Toldo and Buffon.
