under the old laws these arrests would be still taking place

Complaints called in by neighbours led to a human trafficking arrest on the Mountain Wednesday evening, police say.

Around 7 p.m., officers went to a Mountain home after getting noise complaints and reports of “ongoing trespassing,” police say.

Once inside, officers spoke with a 50-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl. After looking around the residence and speaking with them both, the officers became suspicious that the teen was involved in the sex trade, police say.

The police human trafficking unit was called in, and investigators determined she was, in fact, a human trafficking victim.

While they were interviewing her, police also found an 18-year-old man hiding out in a bedroom in the back of the home.

The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with trafficking a person under the age of 18, living on the avails of prostitution, and a host of other sex trade-related offences.

The teen girl was taken from the home and places in a safe location, police say. “Resources to assist the female have been provided,” a police news release reads.

So looks like the "pimp" (18 year) was the one that was arrested. But the potential "john" (50 year old) was left alone?

Given the distaste most folks have for the sexual exploitation of children, I'd suspect that's wishful thinking arising from our natural TERBian impulse to think of ourselves as johns.

Nothing requires cops to arrest and charge someone at the scene with all the hoorah and potential for missteps, or even violence. Not if they are confident they can do it later, after due consideration and consultation.

But I wouldn't equate non-mention of an arrest with no arrest having occurred. Nothing requires the CBC News to report any particular arrest, and we 'uns have been saying all along, that the damage to our reps outweighs the danger we johns present. Maybe the Corp's reporter's a pooner and agrees.

The real lesson's already been repeated many times; behave thoughtfully, patronize well-run places that operate discreetly, don't annoy the neighbours.

If we all did that we'd need very few laws, and could indeed reduce the size of government. But it seems there's always gonna be some Ford Nation-type rampaging around. with or without the crack.
