Even without C-36, charges should be laid on the woman for using a 15 year old like that! A minor!! wtf

But then I don't know what laws would/could/should be used.

I know. She should get what is coming to her, regardless.

But I think the convictions under the new law are more severe.

I need to google them.

There is not enough details specified in the story to get the picture but likely the toothless bill C36 charge is underwritten by the prostitute's underage status.

the part that you are missing is a SCC decision, C36 replaces the old laws

I know that
but they are saying that this arrest is a result of C36
what I am getting at is that this person would have broken the law under the old provisions regardless
all they did was put a prettier bow on the same ugly face
like I said C36..didn't make the law better they just wrapped it up in a different wrapper

Er, yeah, that's exactly the problem with C36.

Bang on. Turn back the clock a year or more and the same arrest would take place, C36 had dick all to do with the arrest. The article only states this is the first arrest by Hamilton police after C36 was enacted. Whatever the new penalties under C36 are for this is fine, penalties should have been more severe decades ago. Stop the BS and fear mongering all you Chicken Littles.

That's okay...it's a good thing so Joy Smith can be sitting in her office with a smirk and be like "ahhh the first C36 arrest"....they need the PR a little in that direction

Meanwhile the rest of know that has nothing to do with C36.

Would have been charged a year ago for sure.

The additional charge of advertising a sexual service, I believe, is new to c-36.

Yes, she would have and should have been charged anyway, C36 or not. But this way the corporate controlled media, which tend to be right leaning and supportive of the Cons, gets to say it was a "C36" charge. Although of course it was nothing of the sort. Watch for upcoming stories about the young girl in question being trafficked and forced into prostitution, whether its true or not. This will play well with the local yokels.

Yep...we'll she just opting to not go for re-election when that rolls around.... But she will still hanging out her shitty head around some other anti-trafficking causes. (Like Bill c36 was really about trafficking. Our previously laws address that fine)

There was already a thread started on this. The funny part is, as soon as I saw the title of both these threads, I knew with out even reading the article is was going to be something like this. Someone doing something way more serious than simply seeing a REPTUABLE sex worker, but the media will blow it up. There will be so many of these cases where these people who get charged with this, are going to people that would have been been charged with similar charges pre bill c-36.
