They give Bill C-36 lip service in as much as watching the street walker on Jarvis. There has NOT been any coordinated effort to form a task force to go after sp's and their johns unless they feel they are being trafficked, but there isn't any more of a concerted effort than before. In other words nothing has changed and everything remains at the status quo of before. My source is very much in the know of new squads and task forces beig coordiated and says there is nothing to worry about at the present time. Obviously he can't predict the future.
So many cops use sp's it is amazing and one even gives discounts to the police force.

What kind of discount do you give Marla? Do you do like in the old days when cops would eat for free? After that have a meal in a restaurant they would put a $10 bill on the counter and they would get a five, two twos and a dollar bill back.

On the road with Willy
They don't have the man power. I said this before when everyone was running around like headless chickens claiming the sky was falling.
The police can hardly handle what's on their plates already.
Unless there is something specific, underage, abuse... they don't have the capacity.
And just imagine what it would do to the courts. It would be a catch and release scenario. They'd have to drop charges because it took to long to prosecute.
Stupid law enacted by disconnected government.

While I agree that things are pretty much the same, you do realize that there are MANY police stations, in MANY districts and your "inside" source" only works at one and can really only speak about one or maybe a select few if he deals with joint efforts, right? So giving people a false sense of A-Ok in York Region base on what a cop said in DT TO for example is probably not the best thing to be doing here.

Sharing the pros and cons, the information on how to remain safe, and even knowing what some cops and lawyers have said etc, is great but making such generalized claims based on a single "inside source" could inadvertently give someone a false sense of security that whines them up in hot water.

AGREED .... In general the mood from local officials & L.E. is only to apply as was done before ..... on specific problem cases. BUT just as before local L.E. such as up in York region are free to decided that local people don't want incall activity & decide to chase it out of the region.

+1

To understand the system, the process usually starts with a complaint, LE checks to see if there is cause to investigate. If so, the documentation start with the complainant, evidence, charge and then the court system. LE, typically doesn't go on a witch hunt BUT who knows from where and when a complaint will be lodged is the question.

So caution should be observed. I put my pecker in the hands that I trust

Yes +1 Femme;

They will enforce, but probably on a complaint based system, ie; LE makes a visit on an unrelated matter like a noise complain, two girls having a scrap, too much traffic (thinking drugs) or many other unrelated matters to C36. If the problems persist, then you may see some action on C36.

The same thing has happened on perb where one SP keeps reassuring everyone that everything is ok because she has friends in VPD who have told her so. The city of Vancouver is one tiny portion of the BC market, and the VPD is actually famous for their misconduct in the Pickton case where they allegedly partied with gang members on the farm where sex workers were used, abused and murdered.

Interesting. My source says the exact opposite of you and your source.

Who is right?

The authorities might be taking the same approach with C-36 as they did with the tax General Anti-Avoidance Rule ("GAAR"). It took the CRA 7 years before they have the guts to apply that rule because they were so concerned that they would lose in court.

Marla didn't say which police force but presumably it is TPS.

Someone at a single police station could have intel on 'coordinated task force' (say from a memo to all police stations in Toronto - it wouldn't be a directive issued out of just one police station unless it is police headquarters on College Street or wherever).

I welcome this sort of info and we should continue to encourage the sharing of information or intel, but like MFF said, we must be still cautious and vigilant so as to not have a false sense of security.

We should have our radar on for ANY type of info coming from LE, lawyers or the judiciary, to keep us apprised as to developments or lack thereof.

I would think a charge of this nature would be big news here, I'd also be interested in the link.

Driving on Dufferin about 15 to 20 minutes ago I noticed 3 cop cars and an ETF van parked right by the Blue Pearl on the side street with one of the cars in the parking lot. Hopefully it's nothing but I had a bad feeling as I drove by.

Not all arrests go to press release, you'll see trafficking and underage.
