So says the April 6, 2004 cover of Hockey News. Now I know some will you disagree. I am cheering for all Canadian teams, yes even the Leafs, but I think one must look objectively and see that the Sens have the most talent on their roster, and have the hunger from being just one goal away from the final last year. So it is clear the best hopes for a Canadian team hoisting Lord Stanley in 2004 are the Ottawa Senators.

Canadian team ratings (post-season):

* Toronto
* Vancouver
* Montreal
* Calgary
* Ottawa
* Edmonton

Basically, Ottawa is positioned as the last CDN team, since Edmonton is NOT yet guaranteed of a playoff spot. Ottawa will NOT make it past the first round, "La Sieve" in net.

Boo, hoo.

I'll pick up the issue as it appears the editors of the Hockey News are on crack. It should make for some great toilet reading.

I dont know how Montreal/Calgary/Vancouver could possibly be ranked ahead of Ottawa...I dont like Ottawa, but those ratings are totally bogus...Ottawa has three 30 goals scorers which is very impressive and no other team can boast such a balanced offence...

Vancouver has tanked since the Bertuzzi suspension
Calgary is a one line team
Montreal too small, not enough offence

Of course I'd like for Toronto to win it, but I'm a skeptic

Err, those are MY rankings. Didn't think anyone would believe my team ratings (not confirmed by Hockey News).

Anyways, bye, bye Sens.

Am I the only one who thinks Kathleens analysis would be questioned more if she didn't look like that? This is TERB after all..................

Hey, you're a homer. Nothing wrong with that. You know a lot more about the NHL than most men, but you are a leaf fan, and your reality is warped by that. All I'm saying is your opinion probably get's more slack than most because you appear to be somewhat pleasant to look at. OK, maybe more than somewhat pleasant. But how's yer backhand????

Ottawa - Tough team, great roster, and normally, I'd not argue them to take the conference. But I think the addition of Ray, DeVries, and Bondra actually hurt an already near perfect unit. For the first time this past month, this team has looked off to me. Goaltending has become very shakey too now. My thoughts are a first round exit to Toronto, second round exit if they meet Montreal/Boston first. Will go out 2nd to Philly/ NJ / Toronto.

Toronto - Still manages to click with men in and out of the roster steady. Missing Tucker, Nolan, Renberg, and Klee, they still win.
Takes out Ottawa in six round one
Takes out Philly in tough battle in seven
Take out the surprise of the conference TB in 5 games.

Kathleen have you actually been watching Ottawa games as of late, other than the one against Toronto?

Sorry to burst the bubble, but I would say for the first time in about a month the team has really come together. The new line combinations that JM has put together are finally working.

Toronto while a good team, it just rip for the picking IMHO. They probably end up with some injuries to key players during the first round as they face Philadelphia who will grind them into the ice with their big hits etc. If in fact they do manage to win against Philly, round 2 will be tough as they old bodies finally give out and they hit the golf course again before May.

By George you're right! - I disagree.

To me, the only threats are Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa of the Canadian teams entering the playoffs.

Calgary/ Edmonton ( If they make it ) - First round exits.

Vancouver - The loss of Bertuzzi is massive. My take, is he is just that good, and the differance to the team. Without Todd, the chemistry of the entire season becomes messed, and I see Vancouver leaving second round unless they face Dallas, then I'd say first round exit.

Ottawa - Tough team, great roster, and normally, I'd not argue them to take the conference. But I think the addition of Ray, DeVries, and Bondra actually hurt an already near perfect unit. Toronto - Still manages to click with men in and out of the roster steady. Missing Tucker, Nolan, Renberg, and Klee, they still win. The team has made this a habit, and it shows great heart in dark times. The loss of Nolan hurts, but the team refuses to accept excuses. With Tucker, Renberg, and Klee all due back this week, Stajan/Kilger will fill Nolans postition fine.
Will be the Canadian team to do the most damage.

Toronto faces Wings for cup.

Kathleen - the blue tint in your glasses is obstructing your vision. Kudos for you cheering for the Blue and white. But you must admit deep inside you know the Leafs will be lucky to get out of the first round irrespective of who they face. Yes including the Sens. Among a host of reasons is the law of averages. The Leafs for sure will not get past 2 rounds as MLSE gets fixated every year on rolling out senior citizens to crash and bang for 4 rounds (not 2 as in '67).

Have you seen the improvement of the Sens the past few games (also mentioned by scubadoo). Defeated TB in their home rink with a backup goalie (Leafs got creamed 7-2 at home by TB with their first stringer). Lalime is actually coming into form. 2 shutouts in his past 24 games and playing good. Besides after Belfour and Brodeur, Lalime has the best playoff record. Like you say, the regular season doesn't matter much. His best games have always been in the playoffs. Which brings me back to the point of this thread. The Sens are Canada's best hope of winning the Stanley Cup in the 2004 playoffs!

With all due respect snicol I can't accept your response. He is day to day and may even play in the last reg. season game. when the playoff start he will be alright. Also, you clearly do not know his stats over the past 2 years. 5 shutouts 18 wins and played toe to toe with Brodeur last year. As far as playoff are concerned, after Belfour and Brodeur, he is the most proven goalie this year.

Who's wearing the tinted glasses? Ottawa was on a roll from early February until about two weeks ago...not unlike the Leafs in December and January. However, I agree with Kathleen (whatever she said) that they've been average over the last two weeks. I think Lalime going down will actually help the situation because the goalie controversy is gone and they can focus. Only question...Is Prusek good enough?

The doctor - Lalime is coming back, possibly for the last game of the season even. And he plays much better in the playoffs! And you comment about the Sens have been on a roll from mid Feb till 2 weeks ago??!! Dunno what you see but its actually the opposite. they are coming into form just at the right time (knock on wood).

Too bad about Lalime...so much for being able to focus. One shakey game and the questions will start.

*takes off shirt and bra to reveal Leafs logo painted on chest and starts to jump up and down while making his point*

If I'm not mistaken, the Sens trailed the Leafs by something like 12 points and the Bruins by 18 entering February. They went on a tear and closed the gap and even passed the Leafs and tied for the conference lead...since then they've just kept pace with Toronto and Boston. Call me crazy but that's cooling off a bit IMHO.

Doctor - You're crazy!! (you said I could). The point difference you mention was at Christmas and before the end of January took the lead in the North East division. Mid February was actually when the slump started - NOT the streak.
