Is Wynne really taking a stand here?

Politicians talk out of both sides of their mouths.
They make people hear what they want to hear, despite not really saying anything.

We'll see what happens.
Hopefully her "grave concerns" translate into concrete actions.

Lmao. I remember how excited peeps got when she first announced her "grave concerns". I guess no one gave Amy thought to her politics, track record or personal life.

As always, it's not what people say that you can depend on. It's what they do. Think about it, people.

This is the least of her worries. The gas plant fiasco is looming large.

If the gas plant fiasco didn't sway voters enough in the last election (as evidenced by Wynne's current majority), it's not going to do a damn thing in 4 years.

I thought the same, but I doubt her stance and ultimate 'do nothing' approach would have been any different.

[BTW, could this thread not have been a continuation of the Wynne-sticky already going?]

I will hold off judging Ms. Wynne until we hear from her AG. Once she receives her expert opinion then I'm hoping she jumps off the fence and takes The Reformers on, if not I admit I will be very disappointed in her.

So now Wynn is getting the blame for Bill C36 with some of these hobbyists. Hope she gets to talk to Harper and brings up this C36 nonsense.

Me personally the only government I blame is the Reform Party of Canada but I do hope considering Ms. Wynne has fought discrimination her entire life because of her sexual preferences she would take a strong stand against this ridiculous bill which clearly discriminates against consenting adults and the method we use to engage in intimacy.

dont get your hopes up sweetheart.

she could've refrained from handing over the judgement and decision off to some judge and instead, took the matters into her own hands. but she didn't.

so like i said, don't get your hopes up.

she's a useless politician whos only looking out for herself imo

Lets hope the OPP's balls drop and throw some people in jail.

We get the government we deserve, right?

Yeah it's beyond disappointing. Remember the campaign ad?

Said "I love running...", but forget to finish the thought: she loves running...away from making tough decisions.

No, she is not getting blame for the bill, but she will be getting blame for not taking an active stand against a piece of legislation she has admitted having grave concerns about. Other politicians already have (taken a stand against); she can too if she so chooses.

Wynne is taking action. We must wait for the AG report before we jump to conclusions.
Would the situation be better if Tim Hudak had won ? I don't think so ! On the contrary
I believe dozens of hobbyist would be in jail by now if Hudak had prevailed.

The provinces can't refuse to enforce Federal laws, but they can simply attach a low priority to
enforcing bad laws, that way the bad laws just die a natural death. This seems the direction C36 is headed.

We must remember that for C36 to go back to the SC some people have to be charged first. Wynne is right in her response because she can't change C36, only the SCC can IF the matter is brought before it.

I highly doubt the Ontario AG will be in full agreement with C36, so we must await her recommendations.

With the old laws, running and/or being found in a common bawdy house was against the law, yet numerous brothels that I'm aware of were allowed to operate with relative impunity. LE turned a blind eye for the most part, and only focused on specific complaints. I suspect that the same will eventually come to pass with bill C-36, until such time as it is finally struck down. So far, there seems to be little appetite on the part of the law to go after consenting adults. I haven't heard of any such arrests thus far... have you?

Couple of points.
LE may have taken a wait and see approach as the old law was being challenged, that is not the case now.
The new law is less than a month old and it came into effect during RIDE season, that will be winding down.
It is not up to ANY politician to decide about the will of parliament, that rests squarely with the SCC.

Depending on time period and jurisdiction, this was true.

I fear that the lack of flashy press conferences preaching fire and brimstone have lulled some into a false sense of security and safety.

There's no requirement for LE to announce that they are enforcing a particular law, or that arrests have been made. Those are discretionary tools for deterrent effect.
