I'd say that the Leafs & Ottawa both played pretty well today. The 2 - 2 score represents the effort both teams put forth. I was at the game and enjoyed it. My thoughts:

Ottawa - I'll say this for them - they are formidible opponents. Kudos to their backup goalie who played like he could well have been their #1. It's no secret that this is a gigantic Leafs weakness but Ottawa seems to have that one down pat.

Toronto - I thought the experience of the old timers came through here. Leetch had several plays which on TV don't look like much but when you can see the whole ice surface you suddenly realize he's doing little things that make a gigantic difference. Ron Francis generally seemed to read the plays before they happened and placed himself in the right spot at the right time. Even Sundin seems to be playing better (smarter) these days.

It's a pity that both teams lost key players to injury. I'm not sure what Lalime's injury is like, but Nolan's looked downright nasty.

On the whole I'd have to say that Ottawa is probably a better technical team. They seem to play very properly as a team. But they lacked passion tonight. The Leafs just have this air of determination about them that I think will really show itself in a major way when the playoffs start. In the past playoffs Ottawa has "choked" vs Toronto. If tonight's game was an indication, I sense that this could happen yet again. Interestingly I don't think fan support has much effect on the Ottawa game - there were lots of Ottawa fans at ACC tonight, but the Ottawa play didn't seem to recognize that.

Though this was supposed to be a playoff preview, I don't think either team really played particularly hard. It's as though both teams were trying to hide their cards from each other even though they already know each other so well. I still hope these teams will meet in the playoffs though I would definitely prefer a second or third round meeting.

Go Leafs Go! :)

If his knee is torn his playoffs are done. Period.

way out in left field
Well, not to hammer the boys in blue but I saw a LOT of sloppy play in the first period. Too many turnovers in their own end, too many missed shots, etc. At one point I think I screamed out PUT YOUR FRIGGEN STICKS ON THE ICE!!! Maybe it just took them a period to warm up because they came through in the end.

Nolan's injury while looking harmless on the replay, could be just a charlie horse. When he knocked knees with the sens player he hit in a way that was outside the knee guard. Let's hope it was something relatively minor.

Anyhow, I can't wait for the season closer in Ottawa...outta be good!

Kathleen - heard, but not positivley confirmed, that it could be torn ACL which means a return date the earliest to be is traingn camp.

six - with all due respect, but your homer blue is blinding your vision on the game you went to see last night. The Sens goals were weak, but McCabe's wasn't? Come on .. I usually repsect your posts but everywhere I read and heard on TV says the McCabe goal was weak on Prusek's part, and the other one was a 5-3 that the Leafs scored on. A team is expected to score on those. While from CBC and TSN and print say the Sens goal(s) were nice plays. Come on six, take your Leafs shades off.

n_v, for me personally, it's just a game and another form of entertainment. I try not to overanlyze it too much or take it too seriously. That's when it loses it's FUN aspect!! I don't rely on the media to form my own opinions.

Take off my Leafs shades? Never!!!
six - I never intended to infer that you or I should let the media form your opinion. The reason I mentioned the media view was as a reference point and evidence that your view is biased and not objective. Hey I am all for fun but just not into false conclusions and observations. Cheers .

Looks like Nolan is pretty much done for the playoffs. They say 3 weeks and then they will re-evaluate. Which mean some rehab after that and getting into game shape which is another 3 weeks. That's a total of 6 weeks (3 rounds), by which time the Leafs will have been loooong gone.

So, when Ottawa beats the Leafs ass in the first round, it will now be because Owen Nolan is injured.

Just so's I know.

I disagree, and remain positive. Three weeks, and no surgury is an excellent sign. Most non-serious injuries like a strain will see the player back sooner then later.
I think you'll see a healthy Nolan back first round. *Trust me*

Kathleen
Kathleen - I know you want to remain positive but sorry to burst your bubble. One must face reality and the hard facts. I was listening to Bill Watters on MoJo radio today and he said it is most likely 9 weeks before he returns. I was being positive with my 6 weeks prediction. It is only 'not surgery' because it is so late in the season. If it was any other time he would have already been under the knife. His ACL is not strained but torn. Partial, but torn nonetheless. He can't put any weight or exercises on it for 3 weeks then rehab - and that's the most optimistic outlook. So even that was to happen he doesn't have a chance for the 1st round. Sorry Kathleen but Watters has been around more of these than you and I put together so I am going by his synopsis of the situation. If you still don't agree with me care to raise the stakes? ;)

Goober Mcfly - If, the Sens beat out the Leafs, it was because Ottawa was the better team. If Toronto beats out the Sens, it was because they were the better one. Thats how I see it anyway.
You are a rare breed of Leafs fan. Most will find ANY excuse if their beloved "Buds" lose.

Kudos to you.

My take to Nolan - Don't be a Marshmellow. Earn your pay, this is what you came to Toronto for. Freeze the knee, and play through..
Actually, I'm not that mean. I do hope Owen is back for Toronto this post season, and that Toronto gets deep enough that Nolan does make an appearance.

Kathleen, I realize you'd like to have Owen back asap, but we must be realistic. Pat Quinn confirmed that Nolan has a partially torn acl. Now, we know Owen isn't a creampuff ( although some other poeple might disagree), so he'll come back when he can.

I figure if the Leafs are lucky enough to see Round 3 and if all goes well over the next 3 weeks ( this is a big if ) you might see Owen back. Everything depends on the serverity of the tear and how quickly the swelling goes away etc and the see what happens when he gets re-assessed.
