because I'm sick of writing essays...who should be on the team? Here's who I think....

Line 1
Tanguay - Sakic - Iginla

Line 2
Nash - Lecavalier - St. Louis

Line 3
Doan - Thornton - Murray

Line 4
Kariya - Marleau - Bertuzzi*

Line 5
Draper - Yzerman - Heatley

D1
Blake - Foote

D2
Niedermayer - Pronger

D3
McCabe - Jovanovski

D4
Stuart - Redden

Goalies: Brodeur, Turco, Luongo..

*Bertuzzi may very well be ineligible so I'll give his spot up for Mario...

Not only does Lecavalier, not deserve to be there, he was not invited to the camp. As For Bertuzzi, he is eligable, he is suspened by the NHL only and it does not apply to the IIHF. One player you left off your roster is Scott Stevens, and if he is healthy could be very valuable player, other notables missing from your roster is Kieth Primmeau, Mark Recchi, Ryan Smith, Eric Brewer, Adrian Acouin, Mike Pecca,

The IIHF will honour any NHL suspension and if Bertuzzi hasn't ironed things out with the league by the, he won't be playing...and I'm OK with that.

I believe Gretzk already said that if Mario is healthy, he's captain of the team...and I'm OK with that.

Lecavalier hasn't proven that he can be a team player night in and night out so, as far as centring a line with Doane and St. Louis...I'm not OK with that.

Doane is having a great year, but I don't think he's proven that he can sustain this level of play, especially in pressure situations like the playoffs (has he ever played in the play offs?) or the world cup.

I would only have Draper on the team if you really planned on having a checking line (not something Quinn is prone to doing in these situations) so the fifth line is a question mark.

I agree with Slade that Smyth, Brewer and Peca would be better additions to the team and I personally think Nolan will get another shot to patrol the left wing. I think Foote has proven to be too much of an injury risk given the limited roster you get for the games so a younger guy, possibly an Aucoin will get the nod.

There's still a lot of hockey to be played and injuries in the playoffs could impact whether some of the older guys can recover in two months.

I guess you didn't realize Marty Turco is American.

Was the addition of Mccabe a joke?

Is Turco American? The Stars site says he shares a birthplace with those noted American players Phil & Tony Esposito. Hmm, who'd they play for internationally? Or did they? Must have been in some meaningless games no one saw, right? The inclusion of McCabe has to be a joke, doesn't it? Also, how can you ignore Theodore? or Raycroft?

I stand corrected. I was under the impression he hailed from Michigan, as opposed to Sault Ste Marie. My humble apologies.

Well... the Soo is very close to Michigan & Turco did play college hockey at the University of Michigan.

Yes, that is where my confusion stems from. I thought Mr. Turco hailed from Soo, Michigan.

McCabe a joke? No...15g, 36a, +17 speaks for itself. I'll take McCabe over an over-rated under-acheiving Brewer. I didnt include Stevens for a reason because he's old, still not back from a concussion, and slower than molasses which is no good on an internation surface and he wasnt there in Salt Lake so I dont reckon he'll be on the team, 2 years later...

I think Doan will be there because if Gretzky is in charge of team selection combined with his interest in the Coyotes, I think he'll make it...plus he played in the world championships last year, experience is experience...

and even if he does make the team, he wont necessarily play as rosters are 26 players and you only dress 20 so....

McCabe's defensive zone coverage would be a huge liability for the team. He constantly looks confused while teams top forwards lines are cycling down low and often misses key assignments inside the blue line.

He's a good offensive defensemen, but his lack of foot speed and play without the puck will keep him off the roster.

We in Ottawa are getting a sweet deal for the training camp. Three games Canada vs USA, Canada Vs Slovakia and Russia vs Sloakia for $225 per seat (club seats). Other packages as low as $105 for the three games.

Not a bad deal for three exhibition games and getting to see some hokcey before the lockout happens.

I may check out those pre-tournament games here but I already have tickets for two games(US & Slovakia) in Montreal. They went on sale last fall. Looks like we will only get exhibition games here.

the_big_E - I don't know which Salt Lake Olympics you were watching but I saw Stevens skating up and down the ice. And yes McCabe on this team is a joke. The guy simply has tooooo many defensive liabilities to be even considered. He gets those offensive numbers because SOMEONE has to play the powerplay from the D-man and he is just the best of the lot from the Leafs. There are a plethora of D-man with his offensive numbers with much better plus/minus and defensively better than him. And besides, with the amount of fire power coming from the 4 lines, the D-man's offensive numbers are not that critical.

Scott Stevens WAS NOT at the olympics...
Blake/Pronger/Foote/MacInnis/Brewer/Niedermayer/Jovonovski

He's old and slow

McCabe is purely opinion, I think he'll be there, keep in mind the roster is 26 players, he can still be on the team and not play a minute afterall!
