She has let her anger get the better of her. She has now set back almost everything we have been trying to fight for just because of anger. We as escorts and hobbiests need to be taken seriously but to do that we need keep a level head and our anger in check. By threatening to name people, she is showing that escorts can be no better than extortionists, when 90% of us aren't. How many of us try to protect those that we see in any way we can? How many of us have taken the steps to continue that even if or when this bill passes.

Please don't congratulate her. I applaud her for taking this as far as she has, but she has crossed a line today and the government may just go after us even worse.

Outing conservatives who have seen escorts won't stop the bill.
Harper and MacKay have both shown they're willing to throw their own under the bus and have zero loyalty to anyone.

I still applaud Bedford for taking bad laws to the Supreme Court and getting them tossed.

Unless of course they have something on Harper or Mackay. I know it's wishful thinking on my part but imagine the look on all their faces, I'm smiling just visualizing it. :)

I totally respect your position but these people are not playing fair. The committee and the Senate hearing are all stacked to try and garner favorable public opinion. It's a travesty how they do not want to hear from workers and only pay attention to the former sex workers, abolitionists and religious groups who have something to gain or an ax to grind by dictating what other strong independent women should do.

I am not sure that women are the targets in this bill.....in fact it aids and protects one of civilizations oldest industries)

It allows them to have sex for cash.( understandably, not publicly...soliciting on streets)
It allows them to personally advertise their services.
They are granted immunity by the courts, should they have to testify on related matters.

the ladies have it good in this Bill. It's us men ...and advertisers that need to worry!!

I liked how Senator Runciman showed that clown who the real Dom is and she calls him Sir. She's embarrassing to watch. Terri-Jean Bedford challenged Canada's prostitution laws because they didn't suit Terri-Jean Bedford.

Exactly....and the girls....could have the industry with some degree of anonymity. Now the girl got what terry Jean wanted....that being the ability to advertise and have sex.....and I'm not so sure the majority of ladies wNt it this way. Alas, it's the way of business...and in reality the ladies are now self employed entities. It's challenge on both sides.

once the law passes, I would not want to be Mirage, the Toeonto Sun or TERB for that matter, and keep on advertising. There will be a few test cases to ensure the new laws Re upheld.

And the ur ours I hear are, that while the Liberals and NDP provide the obvious backlash and repudiation about the bill, in fact they will accept it as quite honestly, they had no answers and contributed nothing to the discussion....Just so that they could rebel now. Politics at its finest!

First the right case would have to present itself and then probably about 5 years or more.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to go through the lower courts first. You can't just go challenge something at the Supreme Court.

a) how does she name names? Do guys really book with their real names? I don't think so. Especially not guys with something to lose...

b) if she does name names, she batter have proof, otherwise its just slander. She can name any name she wants, hell she can say Peter Mackay was a client. But with no video proof of sex for money, she isn't taken seriously, and/or gets sued/charged.

c) if she does have video proof, she'll ruin things for a lot of ladies, because we simply won't trust them anymore.

Well I actually believe they is a good chance that largely indebted provinces such as Ontario will wish to just refer the case to the Ontario Court of Appeal before they start enforcing the law. It is a get out of jail free card that temporarily saves them money and they don't need to deal with a complex social issue as it is going through the court system.

Provinces with the exception of Manitoba (Because they love bill C-36) have not really been consulted on the legislation which will cost millions to enforce, prosecute, and ultimately deal with the social consequences. Essentially without large amounts of federal funding to the provinces, no one is going to really care. Police Budgets are already being heavily scrutinized as being unsustainable. Most police chiefs know that arresting a whole bunch of Johns just further reinforces what we already know - there are too many police officers with too little actual crime to deal with. They are going to dedicate their resources to something that shows value like busting drug rings.
