REALLY???? They pass a LAW now???? I thought House of Commons not even in session til Sept 15
No, sorry let me clarify. He is presenting to the Senate today but if it were too pass as written this is what he is claiming.

Watch it here http://www.cpac.ca/en/

Listen to his speech and one will realize how heavy handed this Reform Party is coming down on the industry.

There will be a court challenge for sure.
I'm sure there will be but the question then will be if it can succeed as in Bedford. It's obviously a loaded Conservative Senate, most of the witnesses are pro bill 36. There is no question this will pass and we are in store for raids, vice teams ect.....

2015 is when we can fight back!

I think there is not public sentiment for this bill , nor local L.E. desire other than protecting from public display, human trafficking & forced workers

All it takes is for a Conservative provincial government to take hold, a conservative minded police chief and L.E.'s focus changes to being very pro bill C36.

....BUT with soooo much bad press & public sentiment AGAINST C36 ..... would they not be encouraging bad press & negative sentiment against themselves by locally going on a " MORAL FASCIST " crusade????

Absolutely, they are doing this, because of the recent controversy against it. Plain and simple. Flexing their muscles sort of say.

I'm not sure they are 'flexing muscle'.

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that prostituion laws had to change....laws that both liberals and conservatives had on the books for years. It so happens, that the Supreme Court ordered that laws be changed and that they have a year to do it. So...as it turns out...Conservatives are in power .... And have had this file dumped on them.

So it's not like they went out and started flexing muscle....they were ordered to come up with alternatives.

Bill C36 would best be argued...once it's law. It's not there yet....heck parliament is not even sitting. And of course, if it's not suitable law....and the next election the Liberals are in power....then they can take a crack at it.

You call this a change. Immunity for the sex worker, will not hold up in court. Bottom line the defense lawyers will have a field day with this. If any accused bring it to court that is.

I would not get my knickers in a knot just yet.

mcKay was one of many witnesses, called to testify to the Senate Committee at what is being called a 'pre-study'.

This is very early stages....one witness...one opinion. Just hold tight lads!

It's a majority Reform Party house, senate, committee etc..... The witnesses are loaded with abolitionists, Evangelicals, and ex prostitutes with an ax to grind and all hoping to get their greedy little hands on some of the $20 million offered...it's going to pass the way it's written if they do not hear the screams of the masses, which unfortunately because of the discretionary nature of this beast is easier to say than do. It will be the same silent majority that put the boots to Harper and his minions and bring in Justin who I hope will make sweeping changes.

And I'm not sure you wanna run a government out of town...who has held this ship as steady as any ship in the world during the last few years of economic turmoil. So much so that the books are being balanced within a year.

Do we throw them out....over a small social issue of you wanting to get your dick sucked. Surely the elite left..who see themselves as much smarter.....would think deeper than a blowjob.

I tend to agree except why would abolitionists, evangelicals and ex-prostitutes have access to the $20 million? This would be the height of hypocrisy.

Jim Flaherty has passed away. No more reason to vote for the Conservatives (aka Reform Party). The rest are a bunch of clowns.

This small issue is a matter of principle regarding basic justice and personal freedoms. It trumps just about everything else. Sure, the economy is not so bad; but do you want a moralizing state dictate what's good or bad for you, especially between consenting adults?

Being prosperous doesn't mean anything if you can't spend it the way you want.

I don't consider it a small issue when a moralistic group of people decide to tell me how to conduct myself behind closed doors with a willing partner who is trying to earn a dollar. I'm also positive if the Liberals were at the wheel any new laws brought in would only further punish pimps and traffickers, not clients, good agency owners, massage parlor owners, news papers, web sites and servers who advertise for the sex workers.

Continue to vote with right wing blinders on because the few perceived pennies you believe Harpo is saving you will be wiped away when you get caught up by a zealous officer just because you wanted to get your dick sucked or jerked off!

These groups who claim to help the sex worker escape a job making $200 an hour and into Tim Hortons for $11.25 an hour will receive the funding. How else is any of this money suppose to reach the sex worker? There will have to be agencies set up and I'm sure Nagy, a few other so called do gooders will be at the head of the table with their palms stretched out because of course they know what's best for all the women involved in the sex trade.

Your comments piss me off, not because you're wrong, but because I'm afraid you're absolutely right.

In any event, if there are 10,000 sex workers in Canada, that $20 million spread out over 5 years works out to $400 per sex worker per annum, if they got it as a grant of sorts. I'm sure that will go a long way towards getting them out of the industry (not!).
