I only play lotto 649 and Lotto Max. I wait until the jackpot reaches 40 million and only then do I play. I splurg a bit and spend $40. I figure the odds of winning are microscopic and this way I don't end up spending alot of money. The lottery is basically a tax on the poor.

I only play 649 and only when the jackpot is over 16 million because I'll have to share with a large family. Each of us will be millionaires if I win!
Just one ticket, three bucks is a cheap thrill.

I spend 10 dollars a day on online tickets. Then 14 bucks a week on Loto 6/49, and 6 dollars a week on Lotto Max. Plus another 100 a week on scratch tickets.

Have you won a lot with scratch tickets? I'm wondering if spending more yields any benefits.

It doesn't. It depends totally on your luck, buying more doesn't mean you will win. E.g. one time, there were 10 tickets, I picked two and won 30 bucks and decided to buy the rest with it. Guess not? ALL NO WIN!!!

Yup. While it does increase chances of winning, because the odds of winning most games is slim you also increase the amount you loose. However, if you can afford to loose for a while before winning (also understanding you may never win) playing more increases the odds.

So let me get this right - you spend $70 weekly on daily on-line plus $20 weekly on 649/Max and another $100 on scratch - that is $190 a week or nearly $10,000 a year on lotteries....really???? That's incredible. Even if you were in a 30% tax bracket that is like $15,000 a year pre-tax...a huge number for the average Joe. Put another way, that is like a $300 SP every week.
If you invested that into anything for 20 years you would have several hundred thousand dollars...have you maxed your TFSA accounts and retirement savings? You could use that money to fund SPs for the rest of your life if you wanted to...just a thought....

Unless you are rich already, you need help
If you are rich already, why bother?

Ive been winning over 5 grand a month on my gambling. Not including casino winnings. Have won 5000 on keno 4 times in the last 3 months. Plus Ive taken about 10 grand from Blue heron casino in 3 separate nights playing roulette. Its all for the thrill and excitement. yes I could put it away and invest it, but whats the fun in that.

Not knocking you, but you are the example I was referring to earlier. Spend more, win more (also possible to lose more). You're a lucky man. Congrats.

Sure you have.
How much have you spent to win 5 K a month, 10-15K ?
This will end poorly

Not to knock anyone, but I have a friend who claims that he has won more than he lost (nothing like 5K, but on smaller lotteries). I don't keep count his winnings vs. his loss, but I know he is down.

The people who usually "win" are those who play in small amounts and manage to hit it big, very few regular players are able to come out ahead of the game at the end of the day because of the way lotteries are set up
Yup, which is why I know my buddy is likely down. He mostly plays pick-2,3,4 and is a daily player.

I know I'm way down, but I play less than him and only on bigger jackpot games. I know I will be down unless I win a significant amount.

If you are spending a measurable amount (e.g. 2%, 7% etc.) of your income, then you are spending too much on a dream

I heard that out in BC there is this 50/50 lottery draw, and it guarantee a winner on every draw. OLG should think about bring it here, I think it would be very popular here in Ontario.

They had this here in Ontario about 9 years ago. Cost was 2 dollars and you got a 6 or 7 digit set of numbers. It didnt last to long.
