wtf.
cosine, anything over 100$ is over priced. take the money and put it into some stock cost less. because u can't expect rim go up to 150$ or 200$, but a $2, $10 stocks could double it's value easier.
cash in. even tho the future looks bright for RIM.
in the long run, alot of mobile phone companies will have the same feautres as rim.

NT is doing great. I'm more concerned about RIM at a whopping $108.74 - should I cash in now or hold?
I'd cash in if I were you. You've probably made a fair bit so being greedy at this point can hurt you. Stocks get considerably more volatile as their P/E grows. Since RIM has a zero P/E (negative earnings, and it is at it's 52 week high there's considerable downside risk in the stock. They are in the process of raising capital, which will dilute the stock, and if I'm not mistaken they still have a couple of lawsuits outstanding.

Keep some of it, but take the majority out. The top could be near and the chances of it going to $150 are slim.

Reading about investments on a public forum like this usually gives me gas. The advice is usually so horrific, it's laughable. Some guys know their stuff others just spew obvious b.s. The guys in this thread however seem to have a clue .

As for Nortel at 8.93...it is simply beginning a cycle that ended in 1999. After 5 years networks need to be upgraded, and new technology is produced. Nortel's future is huge in wireless and VOIP, 2 markets that they didn't have a strong hold back in the alst cycle in '99. The LL optics still suck but it's fading out. Nortel managed an exclusive contract with Verizon who Lucent used to have. Big! + China upgrading these technologies in the next few years.

Take into fact that there are tax write offs this year for technology sector upgrades (Bush election year has goodies), and low interest rates ( until after bush election)...and you have ripe conditions for Nortel steaming up.

As for RIM, the stock is spliting, so no it won't see $150, ect. It might be a 3 for 1 split and the stock price will be back in the 30's. It has more steam in the engine. Saying a stock is overpriced at $100 is pure ignorance without going through the figures, and where it si headed. No need to go on an analysis here as it would take too long.

I own both these plays but reduced in RIM tp purchase some others stuff, with MTM as the biggest hope for a burst. In 2 years I'll own none of this stuff. Cycle peak over, I'm out. When the cycle peak ends and it is going down, the price tends to rocket down while the earnings fade slower. The end result is a lower P/E ratio which fools Joe Investor a whole lot, but remember...never buy on a slope of a down cycle, the results are brutal.

At least people here are making money which is good. Nortel will see much more than 8.93, in fact it went up after hours, so it's more already.

So, $100/share is over-valued. What if the company go for a 10 for 1 split so that it becomes $10/share. Now would you call it a buy ?

The true measure is the not the price per share. It is P/E ratio , it s book value, growth rate plus its balance sheet.

You are right though that low-priced stock moves faster.

It's pretty easy timing the market when you are the company CEO and privy to all the info. ROth also didn't get out when the going was good. He sold his last lot of shares below $10, sold some in the $40 range...I don't believe he dumped a big load at $120. Where he made more money was the massive bonuses he gave himself.

Now that options have to be recorded on the Companies balance sheet you may see fewer CEOs get stinky rich this way.
Sure his BOARD gave him the bonus...translation he gave himself the bonus. yes men just say Yes, LoL. You are right about the accounting. That will hurt tech stocks in particular. With the huge run many are having I'm curious to see how the bonus issue will play out.

Excellent post big black.

Before everyone gets too excited though, let's not forget, Nortel was once 124 a share and for that matter for years was in the 40's and considered a blue chip play. There are LOTS of people out there holding nortel with very high average prices, a long way off from 9 a share. A guy i work with is holding nortel at 70 someodd a share.

I sold my Rim shares the day it rocketed of to 91 a share figuring (very incorrectly) that it was a big spike up and would probably be followed by a big spike down.

Well, that didn't happen. C'est la vie, I made a buck with rim for the second time. (I love that Company)

With NT, the possibilities for Voip are huge, as are wireless and Nortel is big into both.

You can actually thank John Roth for that one (wireless). Under him, Nortel bought up lots of other companies and was looking way down the road from the 99 bubble days.

Dunn has been doing a good job at restructuring, but Roth was laying the ground work years ago for what will hopefully be the second coming of NT. Roth was the engineer, Dunn is the accountant.

Interesting to note, JDU seems also to be moving north lately after sitting in the basement for 3 years.
