Winning at Online Sports Betting

I recently opened an online account specifically for betting on hockey and baseball.

I started with $200 and over the course of a few weeks my account has grown to over $1,000.

Lucky? Probably. But I've been winning consistently, betting around $200 daily now, and my account varies between $800 and $1600.

Now that I've broken through and seem to be able to bet smartly and manage my winnings, how do I take the next step?

That is, to make money consistently. Grow my bankroll...

Looking for ideas.... should I subscribe to paid sports betting picks? I follow Kevin at mlbpredictions.org and his free picks consistently outperform.

Thanks in advance

PM me if you want.

Before getting too excited, get your initial $200 back. There are many reasons for this advice. John

Yes, I've cashed out my original $200 investment, so everything is gravy now.

I am NOT a professional, I am an amateur at this. My betting is still very undisciplined.

I look at what's on the card in the NHL & MLB, look at the starting pitchers, form my judgements etc.

Then I look at the odds offered. Of the 15+ games offered, I will narrow that down to perhaps 5 or 6 games to focus on.

I make a straight bet on about 4 individual results, and I mix and match on 2, 3 and 4 team parlays. (Plus 1 or 2 fantasy parlays). I bet about 10% - 15% of my bankroll daily.

So far I have been lucky, and my bankroll has been steadily increasing.

I've had some very good days, and some days where I struck out.

Online sports books offer excellent odds on MLB. The Blue Jays bad start has been cash for me!

But I'm looking for ideas... Some people swear by sports betting as an "investment vehicle", I can understand why.

Good luck!

Great to hear that you got your money back.

Which book are you using and how were you reimbursed (credit card, wire, draft)?

Avro,

Good luck and keep it up!

There is a forum where you might get some advice http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/46/sporting-events/

I have no affiliation there at all. as anywhere else beware anyone asking for money etc.

Your present results are nice, but are very unlikely to continue in the future. almost nobody with monitored results has anywhere near your present results.

You must also consider that the book you are dealing with has systems in place to deal with winning players. they will short on the line, limit bets, etc. they will not do this if you are just getting lucky, they love that action. but if you prove to be a sharp, they limit your action, or cancel your accounts.

Not sure where veronica is going, but yes, make sure that the online book pays and is reliable.

There are plenty of shady online books, but there are at least a few that are very reputable.

do some research. the forums at twoplustwo will help.

Please don't pay for picks. There are some handicappers out there that know what they are doing, but the majority of handicappers are scams. Also, use a sportsbook like TheGreek (my all-time favorite), 5Dimes, Bodog, or BetCris. At least you'll know that these sportsbooks are reputable and your money is safe.

I'm not sure where your bankroll is at now, but if you have 1K, I wouldn't bet more than $100-$150 per game. Be selective and don't bet just for action. You may want to look into making some $50 two-team parlays and some prop bets, like who will win the series in a hockey matchup.

One thing that I like to do when I have a small bankroll is this: say I have $500, I'll be very selective and put it all on one game I'm confident in. Say it hits and I won $300 on that bet, I'll take the $300 and half of the $500 and put it on another game that I'm confident in, and I'll do this 3-4 times. Then I'll start over again with $500. Granted, this is very risky. You may want to do that with $100-$200 if you feel like taking a risk.

Nevertheless, I think everyone will agree that turning $200 into over 1K is impressive. Sure, variance will kick in, but you've done something pretty impressive.

agree with young, don't pay for picks, for sure. if you get to a very high betting level, paying for advice (truly great advice) could be profitable, but if you are accomplished enough for that, you wont need to ask.

agree with the sites Young mentioned, they are reputable as far as my info is concerned. I would add Pinnacle sports as well. I suggest having accounts at all the good books, and shop lines. I understand that on a short bankroll like !k this is unreasonable.

good luck, let us know how you do going forth :)

"The Blue Jays bad start has been cash for me!"

Any update? Hope your bankroll survived the blue jay 11 game winning streak and fruitful June. Such things happen in sports betting.
