Just read 649 is changing in September. Tickets will now cost $3 per line but the jackpot now starts at $5million, you can now win on 2 numbers and a special number is on all tickets that has a guaranteed $1 million winner every draw, what does everyone think? cash grab or more chances to win

Cash grab, odds of winning the 649 jackpot will not change and Ont49
already pays $1million at a cost of 50 cents per line. But it will be nice to have a guaranteed $1 million Winner every draw.

When you think about it its still a big rip off. About 6 or 7 million tickets sold for every draw and only one winner. That is still very difficult to win. The princess home lotto sold only 250000 tickets for every draw including over 56 cars and cash prizes and its very HARD to win. I bought 6 tickets last year and didn't win anything. So the 10000 people who was in the focus group they are not very smart at all. The new 6/49 should have been something like one draw of 1 million dollar, 5 draws of 500000, 10 draws of 100000, and 15 draws of 50000. I believe that is fair.

I agree that it's a cash grab and that the prizes could be better as you suggested.

So we pay less now.

It could be worse.

They keep it at $2 and up the odds by making it 6 out of 49 plus.

Or they could add a power ball number.

It's great that the odds remain at just under 1 in 14 million.

Also good that there will be a guaranteed million winner regardless of whether the jackpot gets won.

Isn't this the same as the current encore though that you pay an extra dollar for?

This is better because it's guaranteed unlike encore.

If you did not pay the extra dollar and play he encore, no win.

I think they've seen a drop in revenue with lots more people playing in groups and office pools.

It was their idea to begin with, advertising and making those forms available only encouraged it.

Plus more pools are playing Lotto Max on a regular basis but 6/49 only when the jackpot is huge.

I like the odds of lottario but wish there was a higher minimum than 250,000.

Ontario 49 has the same odds as 6/49 but at only $0.50 per play and jackpot stays at 1 million.

You can increase your odds by playing more lines.

So, should I play 6 lines in Ontario 49 or 1 line in 6/49?

Wish we had access to more lotteries including those outside of Canada.

I think its a little bit of both, cash grab and more chances of winning. Like the fact that there is gonna be a guaranteed 1 million dollar winner every draw.
doesn't it suggest by having a guaranteed winner for the 1 million that the draw is somewhat fixed?

whatever the case I still play so I guess I shouldnt talk but the one thing I wish they would change is the prize structure. it simply is not FAIR  !!!!

Im not sure how they are going to do it, maybe put a number on the ticket, then just draw 1 winner out of all the tickets. Something like a 50/50 draw ?

Lotteries are big rip offs, period. How much of the proceeds go into the prize pool for lotto 649? Unless it's changed, it's like 47%. You don't buy a ticket because it's a good deal. You buy one for that rare chance of hitting it big.

ARTICLE FROM THE GLOBAL AND MAIL.

Executive pay at Ontario’s lottery corporation rose by nearly 50 per cent over the past two years, despite a salary freeze for managers in the public sector. Rod Phillips, chief executive officer of the OLG, took home $672,989 in 2012, including $297,989 in bonus pay. His pay perk outstripped bonuses meted out to gambling CEOs in other provinces Not only was Mr. Phillips the province’s 12th highest-paid public-sector employee, he earned 73 per cent more than his predecessor.

If you want to win the lottery go work for OLG.

Loto Quebec still does it you can check their website for each draw, I do feel that the payout is too top heavy but I will keep playing anyway
If you think 649 is too top-heavy (I think it is most fair of the 1 Million+ draws) what do you think of Lotto Taxx.
