I've only bet on sports twice...pro-line. $20 each time. Won damn near $500 on the second one. Took that as a win and walked away.

I have wagered as much as $2000 and as little as $20. It depends on how much you are up ( playing with their money) or down. I have learned it is not a race and never to chase after your losses. It is a short season for me NCAA Baskets and Football and NFL and NBA. I like to relax in the summer.

some big bets out there.
did you guys make some money?
My 10K bet was on Buster Douglas to beat Mike Tyson. I had good reason to think that Tyson would lose to a complete long shot.

Good work, if memory serves correctly, Douglas was a 49?-1 underdog.

Close. You had to bet 42 on Tyson to win 1, and so much money came in that the Tyson odds shortened to 27-1. It was not easy to bet the other way. I lived in the US and not all of the Vegas books were taking bets on the fight either way. I had to bet some of the money in Vegas and some in the UK. The total was 10,200 and my odds averaged 26-1.

Obviously it was a very risky bet. But I boxed at a national level in the UK (ABA title winner) so I understood boxing from within the ring. Tyson had two really big warning signs. His mentor and trainer (Cus D'Dmato) had died and Tyson was clearly going off the tracks with Don King and his cronies. I could tell from his training sparring sessions that he was just not into it and could be hit. Also he had never fought a great fighter in his prime, and never did. If you ever get to see a tape of the fight, watch Douglas closely. He put on one of the greatest exhibitions of heavyweight craftsmanship in a championship fight that you will ever see.

Interestingly, Douglas went to pot after this fight, and I bet against him in his next fight against Holyfield. And Buster lost. Go figure.

Well, it was quite a while ago, I remembered Tyson was a prohibitive favourite. For some reason I've always had the 49-1 number in my head for that fight.
Still an excellent payoff, thumbs up sir!

Thanks, but in the spirit of full disclosure, whilst I was betting money that I could afford to lose, I was shitting a brick on the outcome. I knew that it was quite the theory on my part. I have made four big bets in my life. This is one of them and they were all on boxing.
