Was there playing Let it Ride, and this guy beside me hit one of the bonuses. He was playing 75 bucks on the bonus spot and 50 in his hands. Well he hit it big and won 47 thousand. After he won the pit boss cameover and they had to double check all the cards, and go upstairs and check the video, just to make sure everything was on the up and up.

After a good half hour they came back to the table and paid him out with big chips. This is where it gets funny, the pit boss asked him if he wanted a guarded escort to the cashiers booth. He said no, he was taking the chips home with him. A verbal arguement started, he was dead set on taking the chips home with him.

The guys reasoning was if he cashed in 47 thousand, he would have to show ID and the government would know he won it. If he took the chips home and came back every couple of days with a little bit here and there the government wouldnt know that he won anything. Im thinking he owed something to the government and he didnt want them to know.

The casino finally relented and let him leave with the chips.

They aren't taxable. But if you owe back taxes, are on welfare, or EI.....well the government may want to collect from you. Any time you have a cash transaction of $10,000 or more, you must show I.D and fill out paper work.

Guy is simply thinking ahead, and perhaps avoiding "something".

Then he would have been smarter to say, cash me out for 9 thou and let me play with the rest, and then do whatever the fuck he wants when the bosses walk away.

The moment he got his winnings, they can't let him do what they want. Unless of course it's Casino policy to not let you leave with their chips...That's not taxable and playing $75 per hand, i'm not sure if the guy is on welfare. Owing back taxes...maybe.

If he was using a "players card" the win is recorded.
Players Cards do not track patrons play to the extent that the information would be given to the government.
The ID is because all transactions over certain limits have to go through FINTRAC and anti money laundering. Players card or not, ID or not it still goes through FINTRAC.
Players cards are used to reward patrons for their play, not to track them for financial reporting purposes

Incorrect player cards do track wins and losses and have been used by police and revenue canada for law enforcement purposes
