OK I work in the Industry. One of the main problems the tracks are having the last few years is due to technology. You don't have to come to the track anymore to watch a horse race. You can sit at home watch the race on TV or laptop drink your own reasonably priced booze, eat your own food, read the programme from the local paper etc.This shows up on the floor at the track I work at on race night.Other than the Major Races the crowds are getting thinner every week. F&B accounts for a large part of income to facilities like Race Tracks so its not surprising that the tracks are losing money.

very true...i watched the woodbine mile today from the comfort of my home...i do it every weekend through hpitv...
at woodbine...the food is overpriced and on big days...getting a drink can be a hassle...so i've slowly weaned myself from actually going and just play online if the mood strikes me...
some solutions that other tracks use are theme nights and food and drink specials...maybe some live music...
woodbine gets kudos for free parking and admission that's for sure...the woodbine website is chalk full of info...amazingly easy to navigate and quick to load...

And yet they refuse to outlaw gambling, saying that people should be allowed to make an informed choice as to whether they gamble or not.Once they banned smoking on the property/facilities, they killed the Race Track as we knew it.

People have short attention spans. You can bet a live race every 20 or 30 minutes (more often if betting simulcast races), whereas you can blindly pull a slot handle every 2 seconds.
