I thought the lotteries section on the OLG site gave a run down of the scratch tickets.
They even post pictures and where the person lives to show that people be winning the prizes.
I used to buy scratch tickets because unlike the pick your own numbers, there is supposedly guaranteed prizes.
What I noticed is that many of the winning tickets are bought way outside of Toronto(the center of the Universe btw).
There are winners as close as thornhill etc but hardly ever in Toronto itself.
Even worse, hardly ever from a ticket bought in Toronto.
I've seen people from the GTA win, but they bought the ticket when they visited Wasaga.
The OLG claims the tickets are distributed randomly.
Currently there is the 100K for life scratch at $20 a pop. The lump sum payment is $1.5million.
A little more than the lump sump payment on a $4 Double Cash for life which they have a couple times for the year.
The odds on the $20 ticket is 1 in 3 while the odds on the $4 ticket is 1 in 3.85.
The $20 tickets seems to be sold Nationwide(not sure from wording on OLG site), while the $4 ticket should be exclusively Ontario.
Makes you think if paying several times more for the $20 ticket in a bigger pool with .85 better odds, is better the $4 ticket in a smaller pool with .85 less odds?
If scratch follows the same pattern as the National pick your own numbers lotteries, then what are your chances of winning a top prize.
I could be wrong on this but it's just my observation.
A significant amount of jackpots are won in Quebec.
A significant amount of the total take by OLG for any given jackpot comes from Ontario.
