It appears Kodak is getting ready to declare bankruptcy. Sales are now down 50% from 2005.

The local Black's store in the GTA has a sign up saying they don't process film for 1-hour service in the mini-lab anymore - it has to be sent to head office for 3-day service as so few people get film develoed anymore that it isn't worth their while in the mall to stock the needed chemicals - over 95% of people bring in digital files for printing.

Kodak used to make popular low end cameras and make film, which everybody needed. Unless they become the biggest player in SD cards, which they are not... Well they do design very high-end imaging sensors, but the market for most of their consumer products has just melted away.

Did Kodak invent the digital camera but buried it to protect their film business?
I don't know if that's true.

But if so, I can only assume that none of their executives ever went to business school. Everyone knows that the best way to protect against cannibalization of your business is to be the ones who are cannibalizing it.
