It's probably because of the beautiful spring weather, I found myself at Woodbine race track again. I first started dabbling with horse racing in the early 90's and later stopped for over a decade. However, lately I've caught the bug again and I'm back in this very exciting wager sport. Still consider myself a total novice and beginner since I've never won big cash from the horses yet. LOL

Thanks to the internet and technology, you really don't have to be at the tracks any more. Earlier this month, I just opened up a HPI wagering account linked to Woodbine and several other horse tracks around the world.

Any other horse racing enthusiasts here?

Like the races, but never really got a hang of the betting. Doesn't just betting online take away from the excitement when you're at the track?

When I first started in the early 90's it was before the internet became mainstream and these amazing wagering online options were not available. Nowadays, it is just great what you can do over the internet. With that said, I still prefer attending live races at Woodbine over the internet or TV simulcasts. However, on a very big race such as the Kentucky Derby which took place recently on May 7th, most people in Toronto will just bet online or watch the live TV simulcast at Woodbine or another off-track betting parlour. Only the super rich can afford to spontaneously hop on a plane to attend these races.

The Kentucky Derby was the first of the 3 events for the U.S. Triple Crown (Next event is Preakness on May 21, followed by Belmont on June 11th.). These events since I cannot attend the races in person, I will either be betting/watching online or watch the TV simulcast from Woodbine.

Are you trying to stirrup trouble here?
Huh?

Guess I could have put it in the Sports Discussion forum; however because of the gambling aspect of this thread I felt it was more appropriate in the gaming forum.

I agree. Makes for a pleasant summer afternoon or evening, whether you're betting $2 or $200 a race.

Just punning ya! :eyebrows:

I hope Animal Kingdom wins the Triple Crown this year.
Me too, as I will be betting on him this time for his race tomorrow for the Preakness Stakes. His final odds when he raced 2 weeks ago at the Kentucky Derby was 20-1 when he came out victorious.

Does anyone ever go to the Turf Lounge? I have always wanted to check it out..
I've gone there a couple times after leaving the office. I like the atmosphere (its pretty chill...no complaints) and the food is pretty good. If you're thinking about checking it out, you should. I dont think you'd be dissapointed.

in an elevator...going up to ??
finally...

someone posted a horse racing thread...i adore the horses...follow it religiously and if anyone is up for it...we can put up selections for upcoming stakes races...

i've been to turf...very nice place but i'd rather go to woodbine and enjoy the live racing...

queen's plate looks like CHECK YOUR SOUL could give attfield another one...handling his competition easily...and his sire perfect soul gives a good stamina influence...which will help for the other 2 legs of the canadian triple crown...not to mention turf influences for the breeder's stakes...

i wouldn't feel bad...AK ran well against the bias at pimlico and the belmont well...he lost the race at the break and getting banged up like that is hard to come back from...unless he totally turned into a mudder which he didn't...he will do well down the road as well as pool play a mark casse trained horse...he beat some very good horses in the stephen foster at churchill...
