There has been some recent huge dividend increases by matured companies. Teck 50%, Canadian Tire 31% and Johnson Controls 23%. Is this a sign that the good times are back?

It's a positive sign.

We're not entirely out of the woods yet. But companies aren't going to be willing to share profits unless they are confident that their operating environment is rosy and stable.

Did their dividend policy change? Or is it that the stock price is lower so the dividend per share is a higher percentage of the share value?

LOL, those same GIC/CDs refugees are getting desperate as the central banks in the developed world consider them the biggest suckers/sheeple by driving the interest rate to essentially zero, forcing the moms and pops to speculate like those punters at the Wall Street who got the bail out 2 years ago.

Another bubble is brewing and let's see not if but when the opportunistic politicians of any parties are going to burst the bubble by taxing those dividends approaching 100% to fix the deficits.

That could make the Halloween Massacre in 2006 by Jim Flaherty pretty much like mugging by comparison. Stay tune!
