Call Rogers, tell them Bell is offering you a terrific package to switch to satellite, including giving you a PVR, and see what they say.
I did, last December, and they gave me a PVR free of charge, for a year. I plan on calling them again this November and telling them to renew the free offer, or I'll switch, now.

I am with Rogers and have their PVR. A Bell guy came to our building and set up a little desk area in the lobby. He made a great offer, so I called Rogers to cancel. They asked why, I told them about the Bell guy and his offer, and then Rogers matched the offer, so I stuck with them. I was paying $20 a month for the PVR, now I have it for free for 12 months. Basically Rogers knocked $60 a month off my bill to keep me.

Very easy to get a free PVR from Rogers. Just call their retentions/loyalty department with the threat of cancelling or mention a comparable offer from Bell like mb2010 and they will offer you something, whether its a free PVR, HD box or monthly discount off your bill. If you're polite and tact, you get both (hardware & discount) on a minimum 1 year agreement.

It still amazes me how many people are still going month to month with their cable, internet & phone. Sign on for a year or two if you so wish, and you'll get freebies/discounts galore. If you're happy then rinse and repeat when the agreement is about to expire.

you could rent... $20/mo which is good if you have people in your house who wrecks things like me (i.e. kids)
or build your own MythTV
They have bumped the rental up to $24.95 plus tax of course. My bundled bill is getting out of hand. When I call and say I don't want you F*****g entertainment magazine that you are charging me $1, they say there is no way to take it off...what a rip off. Going to try the Bell approach with them and see what they say.

What a rip off Rogers is. I have Directv and they charge me $5 a month for a DVR which is called a PVR here. I can't believe Rogers is getting away charging $20 to $25 for a PVR. I got sick of Rogers about 3 years ago when my cable bill was close to $200, and I had way too many CBC, Global CTV and french channels. I had to find a way to get my Directv back. Directv is way better now with interactive controls.

I cut my cable bill eniterly out three years ago..since doing that I have saved an avg. of $90-120/month...went with Primus Canada for my phone which saved me another $60 over bell. I now get super fast internet (unlimited download bandwidth), all the calling features, free 24/7 long distance to canada/US and 50 other countries, wireless modem, etc. SO in total I save allmost $200/mnth,....

doing this I download all my movies/tv shows/etc. in record time, throw them on a USB key or sometimes if im lazy I stream wirelessly to my PS3....I have watched more tv shows in the past three years then i ever did with cable..I never miss shows, I have caught up with 1-5 seasons of shows I have never seen, and dont get me going on the movies, lol...

why pay for cable when you can just pay for the net and ppick what you want...cable is silly to pay for in my opinioin. plus a utter rip off by rogers and bell...they need to be kicked in the nuts!
