I think statistically they are the same but i was wondering what peoples opinions and perceptions are of the following.
lets say you take 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 as your first number in the pick 3 and then for example 2 and then 5.
your odds of winning straight play are now 1 in 100
so this costs you $10 to play.
if you take 10 random tickets, your odds are 10 in 1000
so my question is, what do you think is better 1 in 100 odds or 10 in 1000?
or is it the same?
any input is appreciated. or suggestions on how to play pick 3 or pick 4

Interesting concept and I am not sure you how you are calculating the odds. You have to get the remaining 2 digits in the correct sequence.
Last month when I won pick 3 twice I was gambling on pairs of numbers that haven't been drawn together in the recent past.

Statistically speaking, 10 in 1000 and 1 in 100 are exactly the same.
No matter how you look at it, you are purchasing (or playing) 1% of all the possible outcomes for tonight's draw

Unlike keno, The Pick 3 has so little options when it comes to systems and betting strategies. It's such a straight forward game and the payoff is so little.

If you only have to get 2 numbers all possible combinations are 100. 0-99
3 numbers are 1 in 1000 0-999

yes the take is at least 50% i have noticed.
i know statistically that 10 in 1000 are the same as 1-100 but i was also asking about experiences and perceptions and thoughts.

I just figured pick 3 was the easiest to win so i would rather win something then take a shot at millions all my life and never win. What are your strategies or tips or suggestions for Keno?

Payout for pickk3 is too low. You may want to try 5 numbers kENO at $2.00 =$500
I think the odds are better than pick3

when I play keno I like to select 6 groups of 2 numbers. And box them into 15 sets of 4 numbers.

So, to win, all I need is any 2 of those 6 groups to hit. For $15 you'll win $100.

or you can try this:
Pick 6 balls

then

1-2-4-5
1-3-5-6
2-3-4-6

Cost =$3.00

and if your set has 5/6 correct, you win $100. guaranteed !

7# game

When I got 7/7 in March and May this year, this is the wheel I used.

Pick 3 key numbers A B C

Pick 4 best pairs 1 to 4

then

ABC 1-2
ABC 1-3
ABC 1-4
ABC 2-3
ABC 2-4

I have lots of low budget Keno wheels for 4 to 8 numbers ...sorry don't have time to post them now.

how is it guaranteed? if I pick 6 balls like you say, what happens if it comes 1-2-3, with your system I wouldnt have that combo.

it would take 15 combo's, not 6, to be truly guaranteed.

johnny: your 10pick wheel is better than damn scratchers at least...however, it offers no guarantee or consolation prize as Fred Zed points out with his Keno suggestion.

if I wanted to let $10 ride on pick3, and I do not expect doubles to be drawn...I would just plug in my favorite digits into 5digit box wheel here:
http://crazynuts.hollosite.com/daily3_pick3_lottery/

my pick3 game allows "straight/box" split bets, so if I do not hit the straight, at least I can win half box prize.

double numbers 3 nights in a row and number 7 looks hot.

so do you guys go with the trends or go with something that is "due"

i am thinking friday night, no double numbers and no 7
how about 6,8,9 for friday night boxed up for $10?

Hi johnny, sometimes there are monkeywrench draws with repeat numbers. I only play such trends if the numbers are well within probability. This pick3 lottery spreadsheet tracks the numbers in each ballslot, allowing you to quickly see what is hot & what is not.

this is the latest spreadsheet which you can download & modify for your game:

Hey, Zorlack nice to see you over here. Did you add some filters to MYLQP http://crazynuts.hollosite.com/my_lottery_quick_picks/ ? It seems to be peforming better with the Keno series I am generating lately.
Hopefully I will strike 8/8 soon..he he hehe!
Anyway, some time I will send you some output I have been generating with MYLQP . I don't know how people are playing Keno without MYLQP..lol

Hiya fred Zed, thank you...glad you still find MLQP to be useful. Since you first raved about MLQP, I did not touch the routines at all whatsoever, did not want to risk goofin your lucky streak heh!

Sure, I would be very interested to see how you are making use of it.

FYI: A new toy I've been working on:

cheers!

This didn't sound right to me, so I thought I would work it out.

It's not exact since the payout for Pick3 fluctuates, but let's say that winning a $1 straight Pick3 pays out $500 on average. You have a 1/1000 chance of getting a straight. This means that for a $1 bet your expected value would be $0.50. [Edit: which makes sense since the lottery corp pays out 50% of draw sales]

I'm ignoring box play here since the payout is smaller, and you seemed to think that the around $500 payouts for straight picks were already low, but I'm willing to bet the expected value is also $0.50 or else the straight pick EV would have to change.

In a Keno 5 pick, let's say you make the same $1 wager. You have a 1/781 chance of winning $250 and a 1/50 chance of winning $5. Our expected value is ($250/781 + $5/50) or a little bit over $0.42.

However, if you play Keno, you will win small amounts more often, and this might be more satisfying that winning nothing for a very long time.
