Video Texas Hold Em Poker

I know my local casino has had it for a while but I recently just tried it out once. I really like it. Basically a bunch of players are around a table video screen, and the cards are electronically dealt on the screen... like a computer game. And you make your decisions on a little touch screen in front of your seat. And when you cover up the face down cards so you can peak at them, they pop up! Way cool. Obviously video texas hold em eliminates cheating. Unless you're in cahoots with another player, but talking about the hand is prohibited and I think would piss off a lot of people at the table.

Any one else play it that way? Any thoughts or comments?

It's about time. More hands per hour. No dealer errors and no tipping the dealer.

My biggest concern with video poker would be that the casinos can now manipulate or "juice" the deals to increase the rake. I’ve always be skeptical with online poker and these tactics.

I've also been skeptical about online poker since it can be manipulated in the Casino's favour. It's a little riskier for the player since it means more hands per hour, and can result in significant losses pretty quick if you're not careful.

It's video texas hold em boys... you're playing against other players.. not the house... the house takes a I think a %10 of the cut or somethin.

Many Casino's make their money from poker games through the rake:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rake_(poker)

You can see how it would be in the Casino's best interest to increase the size of the pots. This is where juiced deals come in. A deal is "juiced" when it has been manipulated to increase action. For example, if I'm in a pot with someone and I flop a set and my opponent flops a flush draw, chances are the pot will get big.

I'm not saying that this actually occurs, but with computer generated deals the possibility is there.

All online poker rooms and most brick and mortar casinos use the rake. I know that there are some casinos that now charge an hourly fee instead of the rake.

There is usually a cap on the rake. I've been in live games (with dealers) at Rama where a royal flush beat quad kings and aces full. I've lost quad 8's to a straight flush.

I am convinced that juicing happens at the online games, in order to make the
game more interesting (and profitable). When you play at a real card game,
the chances of big hands are much lower.

I don't buy that, it's all random.

The reason for this perception is because you see many more hands, with many more people in a pot online.

My 2 cents.

Go to a real casino, and sometimes you will sit for 2 hours without hitting anything.

I understand, and I've been to a real casino.

Online players will not sit for 2 hours waiting for cards. They mix it up with marginal hands out of position all the time. These big hands hit because more people are playing pots and more hands are being played. How often do you see a walk online?

Young online pros today have seen more hands than Doyle Brunson. That is significant. It's also important to distinguish the difference between tournament and cash game style of play.

I play a lot of live poker (tournament style 2 or 3 nights a week), and I've seen as many big hands live as online (2 months ago I flopped a Royal Flush!).

BTW danmand, it just seems like 2 hours before hitting anything. I know the feeling. :D

I prefer live poker too.

You should check around, there is probably a free league at a local bar. I'm in one and there are more than a few good players. Of course, there will be donkeys too.

There are a few good leagues.

I played the cash table at Brantford casino (limit). Very bad. I hear they have tourneys on Thursdays though. May check one out.

Hey Horny.... I visit the Casino Lac Leamy in Hull (Gatineau), QC. Also in Casino Montreal and Casino Charlevoix... all in the wonderful country of Quebec.
