I'm so addicted to gambling and black jack. I can't control myself, i just lost 2000 dollars in 5 hours the other day. That's my biggest loss ever. Any tips on how to control gambling habits.

i'm not a poor blackjack player, i know how the game works. I have been playing for years now. I have had my big days too. For every big day i'd have 5 losing days. You know its just one of those days where you do everythign right and the game still screws you over. For example i would win severals hands in a row at $25 a bet. Then when i try to go big say 75 or 100 i'd always lose. OR you start at a new table at dealer gets like 20,21,19,20, to start and you lose 100-200 dollars just like that. It just sucks. Anyways its not like i'm in huge financial trouble, its just depressing to say "i'd had my biggest loss today". 2 grand.

I just play poker but one thing you must realize is your threshold point where the pain of losing money disappears. That's the tipping point of your big loses. Take only enough money to get close to that threshold.
For me, it's 3 buy ins at poker. Once that's gone, I know it's not my day and I stop.

Anybody else have any huge loss stories?
I have lost quite a bit of money on Daily Keno
http://www.olg.ca/lotteries/games/howtoplay.do?game=daily_keno
but I only wager
with money that I have won. So far this month my Keno gross winnings
are $7,000, $30,000+ change in gross winnings since Jan.... but during the last few days I have lost
a couple of hundred of that. So far this month I have lost about $800.00 maybe a $1000.
When I start losing I shift to the lower level games where the odds are good.
I only bet on the higher level games when I am in winning mode.
Fortunately with Keno you only get one draw daily, so there is no temptation to try to recoup losses
until the following day,
I imagine my losses would be huge if I was playing at a Casino.

Whew... I shuddered when I read this question...

I consider myself a recovering gambling addict. Basically I loved the rush of playin at the casino and chasing a win...

I was never really good at gambling. I basically squandered my life savings in my twenties. I think after ten years and over $30000 in debt later, I got it outta my system. But I think in one day, the most I ever lost was $5K. And that was in about 20 mins. Haha! Easy come easy go eh? Luckily for me I didn't have a family at that time that I coulda brought down the tubes with me. But I'm much better now.

Obviously you have to only play with what you can afford to lose and be able to walk away when the chips are down. Gambling addicts don't know how to do those things. I wouldn't wish on anyone to become an irresponsible gambling addict.

Here's a fucked up gambling story...

I had a couple hundred bucks in my pocket. I started out on a $25 Carribean Stud Poker table... after several hot streaks, I ended up betting the maximum which was $500, which means if I want to keep my hand and continue playing a hand, I have to put double my original ante. That means there's $1500 riding on a hand. LOL! Anyways... I ended up reaching $9500. And the degenerate gambler that I was, I wasn't satisfied with $9500. I wanted to break $10000, leave with a nice round number. I ended up walking out with $5500.

Stupid huh?

A few months ago I was in Vegas with a group of friends. One of those friends lost 3,000 on roulette within hours of arrival. He lost another 4,000 over the weekend, for a total of 7,000. He acted like it was no big deal... and for him, I don't think it was a big deal.

The funny contradiction was that he complained about throwing in $140 for bottle service on one of the nights.

As for controlling it, the only thing that I've seen work for people who are addicted is to avoid it completely. I knew someone who actually contacted the casinos and had himself blacklisted.

Ross, I would've done the same thing man. In my mind i would have to break 10000 to be satisfied.

“Know you limit play within it”

Gambling much like an SP / MP habit can be financially dangerous and cause much self inflected stress and heartache.

I you walk into a casino and drop 2K and think nothing of it because it’s within your limit your willing to loose than that’s fine but if that 2K was suppose to go to paying the rent / groceries / car pmt / gas and insurance for a month and it leaves you in a cash crunch month after month after month than you may want to consider seeking help.

Personally, I have had the good and the bad end of gambling. I dropped 80K in 2007. just as I was ready to give up on the habit I started on a 4 winning days to one loosing day run for months. My highlights were winning 150K in Feb 08 and 105K just last week.

If I was smart I would give up on this while I’m far a head but I’m sure I’ll be back there again today :)

As for the question the most I have walked in there with to spend is 20K and walked out with nothing to show for. That 20K was won one morning and went back late that same night…. Got greedy and lost it.

I love to go to the casino, don;t like poker or blackjack and think that one arm bandits are just that. so I play roulette. Normaly I can get through an entire night and only loose about 100.00, however 3 the last 5 times I have been up money to tyhe tune of 350 or 400 each time.

Yeah I guess he didn't see the value in spending $140 on booze and pissing it away when he could take that $140 and take a chance at trying to win more money.

I've done the same thing.

I have a very good friend who was worth around fifty million. Vegas, Monaco, and the Bahamas were an occasional pastime. When the Rama and Niagara casino's opened, it became like having lunch and he lost everything.. EVERYTHING.
Your friend was worth $50m ? perhaps he should have been happy with what he had and devoted his time to managing it well.

Fred you sound like an astute gambler.

R u saying that casino Keno has worse odds?
The odds are the same but:
1-more opportunity to try to recoup losses at the Casino
since there are several games every day.
2-with daily Keno you have more time to review the stats before each game compared to the Casino game. To me personally
I think that can make a difference.

Worst I have lost is just over $1000 buck that I had won earlier in the night. Other than that, only the few hundred that I have brought with me and most often I have been able to put my winnings aside and not dipped in efore leaving.

I'm an avid sports bettor and poker player (but I've limited my poker play online since the number of good players has been rising) and I'm currently on a very sick loosing streak. However, limiting all my bets to the same amount and not chasing bad beats has helped me immensely. No book can teach you this. You need to be disciplined if you want to take any gambling venture seriously. Ever professional gambler has loosing weeks, months, or even years.

As far as blackjack, or any other table game goes, I do not have any edge whatsoever therefore I won't even consider playing. But I can tell you that with blackjack there is a great deal of variance.

As far as your initial question about the biggest loss I've ever had...in sports betting I lost 15K during the Mets loosing streak last year before the post season. And I lost around 10K once playing 25/50NL at the Rio (biggest mistake of my gambling career) during the World Series of Poker last year.

I wish you the best of luck though.

I just got back from the CNE casino today, I walked in with 200 and left with 200. I'm quite proud of myself, i set my limits today and played within them. I could've walked out with 340. Quite unusual to actually stay within my limit but i did so i'm happy.

I used to work at one of the racetrack/slots facilities and during my orientation, I remember covering a section on how to get help if you feel you have a problem. As you mentioned, there is a Help Line and you can also volunteer to be put on the banned list. You could arrange to talk to a Slots Manager, he would take you aside, away into a private room, talk to you then escort you out the back door so as to not make a scene. Your name and photo would go on record and you would not be allowed back in for a period of time. I forget exactly how long, I seem to think it is six months, but I could be wrong. Security has a book with names and photos at the front entrance and if you try to enter, they will stop you.

Regarding the most money lost at a casino, there was a guy I used to see during the week, usually on a Monday. I'd be on day shift and he would start as soon as we opened, at 9 am (now it is 24-7). When I got ready to go home at 4:30, he'd still be shoving $20 bills into the machines and he would have 3-4 of them on the go. One day I started talking to him and he said in a normal day he could drop $10-15k into the machines. Some days he'd win it all back and more, others he'd lose some.
