Using US dollars in Niagara...should we exchange our USD's?

Now that the USD and CAD are now hovering around par, are the dancers at the Sundowner okay with being paid in USD? What about paying for beer, food, and the cover charge?

What about restaurants and other businesses in the area?

I guess we are wondering if there is any need to exchange our US currency.

Many businesses generally give terrible exchange rates regardless of what the current FOREX rate may be.
I was in the Beer Store recently and they were taking US$ at $.91 CDN.

That being said, I think it would be smart for border town businesses to advertise that they take US$ at par.

Apparently, there are stores in the US that think that the Loonie is still worth less than $.70 US.

You are better off exchanging. Now that the dollars have flipped the US dollar is as unacceptable in Canada as the Canadian dollar once was in the US.

There are even some SP's that state on their websites that they do not take US dollars.

The good old days are over.
Thank you George W. Bush, you piece of shit.

In case you didn't notice, they were asking about strip clubs, not SPs.

Having been to Sundowners and Mints in the past week, US Dollars were accepted at par by the dancers, and I doubt this will change unless the dollar takes a HUGE swing down. The dollar fluctuates in small increments daily( less than 5 cents), so exchanging your money is a waste of time if you are just going to the strip club for a few lap dances.

As for other businesses like restaurants, most have adjusted their pricing, but some still accept the US Dollar at par because they deal with a large number of patrons and would rather have the business. Save yourself the hassle and use your credit card if you are going out to eat at a restaurant.

We use our credit cards for most purchases but cash is the best option at times. What about getting CAD from an ATM machine?

I think any SP, Club, MP that refused US currency is extremely foolish because as an American I take it as a personal insult and would not patronize anyone that does not. Even if they change later I would think twice about using them.

I totally agree. For years I would pay and tip in US $$$ at par anytime I saw an SP or went to a strip club and they gladly took it. In most SP cases, I would round their asking fee up $20-40 if I felt like tipping. If they changed now that the tables were turned, I would definitely cross them off my list just on principle.

I found the best exchange rates to be at the casino. The only problem is if you go to exchange money and get caught in the casino playing slots or craps then you could take one hell of a discount if you lose!

And how many US establishments take Canadian money? Taking American money is a courtesy, not a right. Your legal tender stops being legal once your cross outside the jurisdiction of US laws.

I think you will find that most merchants at border malls take it at par.

Our malls are doing a very significant volume from Canadian shoppers.
