Have booked one or your ladies for Sat night which will include dinner and a hotel.

Not familiar with the city. Looking for advice on both. Plan is to spend a couple of hours at dinner and then back to the hotel.

It would appear that the Sheraton might be one of the nicer hotels. Looking for a place with some class. What do you think ?

Also looking for a nice classy restuarant. Pasta, seafood/steak. Nice and comfortable.

Thanks guys.

Re

Well, as for the finer places to eat, this is Hamilton ( slim pickens) for pasta you can try La Spagette on upper James.... For a great steak, go to Martins Steak House or Sirloin Cellar...Always great choices....First class as far as choice of hotels.....Hopefully your meeting with a classy lady like Badkat..Good Luck

Thanks for your reply.

What would you suggest as the better restuarant in relation to the location of the Sheraton ?

If you are looking for a good place for eats in the downtown core then I might suggest to try Slainte. Good food and a nice selection of domestic and international drafts at a good price. Took one of my regulars there once, she almost wanted to pay me for the evening :)

For dinner I would suggest either La Cantina, a very nice Italian place. Has a nice mix of the upscale and casual. Another good choice would be LaCosta, excellent food, great service and a very charming dining room.

Downtown restaurants ...

I will agree with Dr. Gonzo regarding LaCosta and La Cantina. I would also add Lo Presti's and La Piazza to the list ... but especially La Piazza. All have good menus. I think La Costa is still my favourite among them although their menu may be the most limited.

Good luck,

JB

I haven't tried either of the places you mentioned, but I might just have to now.

Lo Presti's always struck me as a bit pretensious, although I've heard the food is excellent.

Does La Piazza have a fairly standard Italian menu or does it have some exotica as well? I'm out to try something new and if it's typical faire I'll stick with La Cantina as I know the chef well...

Incidentally, if you enjoy Indian food I just had a great dinner at Taste of Bombay. Not quite as good as Katsuri, but very well presented.

La Luna is great as well, especially for vegetarians and it is pretty casual without being pedestrian. The food is Lebanese and Greek...

Thanks guys, your help is appreciated. Decision time though as I will make a reservation sometime today.

For Italian is it La Costa, La piazza or La Cantina ?

Hammertown mentioned for steak... Martins Steak House or Sirloin Cellar. Are these any where close to the Sheraton? or does it make any difference as I will be driving ( Guess it is not like TO as far as distance)

Lastly Trelew mentioned Slainte . Like beer but not so sure about a qiet , romantic first time meeting.

Thanks

Lo Presti's is by far the most romantic spot. Especially if you book a table in one of the Gazebos- these are singula, private.
Kazoo Supper Club on James South is also excellent (and much less formal) , the food in the Sheraton's main restaurant is quite goos alos although their buffet has detreriorated greatly in the last year.
Also on King William(not far at all from the Sheraton) The Rude Native(fusion) and Dalinas(egyptian), and on King the best szechwan/chinese- Le Chinois.

The Sirloin Cellar is within walking distance of the hotel, it's better to walk through the mall towards James St. The Cellar is on the Corner next to the parking lot. Great steaks! There is a very fine place to eat in Stoney Creek, bottom of Fruitland Rd at the Lake, very fine dining can't remember the name of the place, Little to stuffy for my taste but good place thats out of the way and up scale.

I'm sorry to break the news to fans of the spot, but Kazoo Supperclub is apparently no more. They were supposed to cater an event for me earlier this month and we were told they had to drop out as they were going out of business. A great restaurant that will be missed.....

Samantha: I totally agree with all of your reccomendations...excellent taste, especially Dalinas, one of the hidden gems. I'm hooked on the Turkish coffee....

I think I'll try Lo Presti's this weekend...tough to get a table there?

And lastly, in my biased position of personally knowing the chef and most of the staff well, I would reccomend La Cantina.....for Italian at least.....

Lo Prestis

It can be tough at Lo Prestis to get seated. A lot of high-powered (or as high-powered as you can get in Hamilton) legal types, developers, builders, politicians and media hounds hang there. On a Friday afternoon, it's a who's who of Hammertown. Still, it's worth waiting for. Samantha's right, you can't beat it for intimacy, especially the gazebo tables. But if you want noise, drunken frat boys and decent live music, Slainte is a fun night.

where to go??

In my opinion the Sheraton is by far the nicest of the hotels in the area...

As for restaurants...

for italian - La Cantina on Walnut street - (very nice)
La Costa on King William
Chez Bonito - little intimate place on John Street
La Piazza - on James

for steak - Sirloin Cellar on James
for Austrian - the Black Forest Inn

by far my fav would be La Cantina - intimate, sexy atmosphere - two rooms - one more casual
the food is amazing and service is excellent =)

a short cab or drive (5 minutes from the Shereaton)

enjoy!!
