The Oct. 19th draw produced one winner for the $16 Million jackpot.

The October 24th draw now has a jackpot of $20 Million.

Anyone have any idea of how many bonus draws we're infor and the expected jackpots?

Approx 649 sales are ~$25M when jackpot is ~$15M
and up to $45M in sales when jackpot is $20M+. Sales are ~$15M when jackpot is $4M.

My guess is OLGC are in revenue generating mode, and that there
will be one or more bonus draws.

Personally, I don't bother with 649 when jackpot is less than $8m.
Looking at the sales stats, I imagine I am not alone.

Checking over my records, there is usually a bonus draw this time of year, and depending on if the jackpot increases naturally, or by bonus will determine the number of bonus draws.

There are seldom less than 4, and sometimes up to 6, with the final draw in the $35,000,000 range.

My understanding is that Bonus Draws are mandated to disperse unclaimed prizes from previous draws.

Clearly they do increase product demand.

Thanks for the clarification.
I suppose it's time to submit some 4#Keno combos to raise some 649 play money.
So it seems the OLGC are benefiting from 649 jackpot winnings that some old lady probably forgot to cash in.

Here is what was stated by the BCLC (like the OGC, but for British Colombia), when asked for specifics :

The decision to run a Bonus Jackpot for Lotto 6/49 is a national one involving the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC). ILC decides the amount of the next jackpot on a draw by draw basis and advises its lottery jurisdictions accordingly. Scenarios are presented to the lottery jurisdictions outlining jackpot possibilities during a bonus jackpot period. This allows for variations of advertisements to be arranged for ahead of time and allows them to be implemented quickly once a jackpot amount is announced.

There is a national unclaimed prize fund for nationwide games and a regional fund for BCLC games. National unclaimed prizes are transferred to the National Unclaimed Prize Fund (UPF) which is then used to fund Bonus Lotto 649 draws, designed to return the money to the players. The regional fund is used to fund bonus prizes within British Columbia. For example, the bonus area on Scratch & Win tickets is funded by BCLC's UPF.

BCLC, in conjunction with the other lottery jurisdictions across Canada, operates in partnership with Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) to offer nation wide and special event lottery games.

Thank you for your interest in lottery gaming.

Thank You

And from the OLC

====
The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC), which is responsible for Canada wide games such as LOTTO 6/49, offers special bonus draws from time to time to reward regular players and to attract new players. I can confirm for you that the draw being held Wednesday, October 24th, 2007, with a guaranteed jackpot of at least $20 Million, is a bonus draw.

The ILC schedules and approves all bonus draws and monitors the performance at each jackpot level. After each bonus draw, the ILC confirms whether there will be another bonus draw and announces the guaranteed amount. No one knows with any certainty whether a bonus draw will follow another until ILC makes its announcement. Bonus draws are not contingent upon whether or not the previous jackpot is won.
