Let me set the scene,

Sunday night after having a long hard week including working into and thru the weekend for a project that was due Monday morning I finally finished. I decided to go the casino for a quick try of my luck. I always play the $5.00 slots I figure either win big or loose quick and be out of there.

I sat down at a machine and just as I was about to put in some money buddy next to me says “hey, that machine just paid out $10,000.00 10 minutes ago” I looked at the machine and thought it must be drained… what are the odds it will pay big again, so I thanked him for that advise and walked on over to another machine about 6 down.

Just as I about to have a seat somebody else sat down and I see buddy telling him what I figure was the 10K line. He shrugs his shoulders and begins to play anyways. Within a minute of playing he wins $75,000.00 on the machine I was about to play (GRRR)

What a way to end a week, I figure I can’t be pissed at the buddy that told me what the machine paid cause I’m guilty of the same thing. From now unless they ask I’m keeping my mouth shut.

Sorry just me ranting

I love the slots. They are such a good lesson in marketing slim odds as a good investment.

The computer chip in the slots is a number generator...it never stops. It doesn't matter if you play or wait an hour or a month. It keeps spinning the numbers.
That lucky winner got the right combination for the jackpot.

$75K are you kiddin'?

Damn! Too bad :(

With that cash, you could have seen an escort every day until the end of 2008!

Myths of gambling

Myth #3: Winning follows losing

Fact: Lottery games, slot machines and roulette are examples of random event games. They are inconsistent and unpredictable. You cannot predict which number will occur based on previous results because each number is independent of each other. On average if you flip a coin 10 times, and each time it comes up heads - doesn't mean the next time it will come up tails. The coin doesn't have a memory. Each time you flip the coin it has a 50/50 chance of coming up heads again.

Myth #4: I know that if I hit the stop button on the slot machine at just the right moment, I'll win the jackpot

Fact: The result of each game is entirely random and is not affected by altering play patterns, time of day or position of the machine within the facility. No matter what you do, or what is going around you, the slot machine's computer is continually generating random combinations. Each time you play the slot machine, it stops on a random combination and displays the results. The next time you play, it repeats this process.

The outcome is random, every time you play.

Bad mouths (ok, tells the truth about) the slots as random but believes that there is a pattern for lotteries? Interesting.

Lotteries like Keno with large numbers drawn do exhibit short-term patterns, maybe not strong enough to win 10 number jackpot but definitely helpful for the smaller games.
You only have to look at the high/low distribution and odd / even distribution of the number series over a few draws to satisfy yourself this is correct.

The short term patterns are still random though. For example, try flipping a coin - it will come up heads about 50% of the time and the more times you flip the closer to 50% it becomes. It is expected that there will be a streak when the coin comes up heads 6 or 7 times in a row but it cannot be predicted based on the outcome of the previous flips.

That is because your sample only has 2/2 possible outcomes
while Keno has 20/70 outcomes. The larger samples
will exhibit certain characteristics as you know
from College stats courses eg: Central Limit Theorem

http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPorta...Search_SearchType_0=eric_accno&accno=EJ733297

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concrete_illustration_of_the_central_limit_theorem
Now, this does not help you predict the exact numbers that will come, but
it may help you pinpoint number groups that will likely predominate.

By looking at Keno historical data using software packages
such as Gail Howard, you can see some of the patterns very clearly.

When you play slots it's only 3 bars with 9 pictures. the old school ones without the video animation.

upper left, 4 upper center, upper right 2
left center, center, right center1
bottom left,5 bottom center, bottom right 3

Now this machine has 9 spaces with the big x.so it's 5 lines.
If I recalled from the casino guy showing me how a VLT works. You think you need only 1 line combo to win.But 1 roll of disc is actually 64 combos(the left side vertical) and you got 3 so it's 64x64x64=262144 combination.

You know how you get a cherry,a bar, another bar=2 wins/(credit)that could be a win combination of a 17,25,or a60 on the 1st 64 roll because the cherry was the 1st item for a win.

Alot of times you will get almost a jackpot.like 2 pictures and a blank space. You win nothing?
The winning combos are like probably 15 per disc. The win disc gets smaller when you get to the 3rd reel(the right side)So it's 15x10x8=1200 for wins including small wins or/progressive/ jackpots. I may set it up too high. But 1200 wins for over 260944 combos is not very good odds.
Leaving you lose combos over 259144 times

You are a guaranteed loser at VLT.But if you play card VLT the odds are slightly better.Of course it's a 50/50 odds for card games like BlackJack

I like playing VLT with animation, but if more than 20 lines that is restricting your underwear circulation.

Here is an a good example of what I am getting at.
By observing that there was only 1 prime number
played on Nov 1, I was able to get one line 4/4@$2.00
Nov 2. Because in total 9 prime numbers showed
on Nov 2 it was quite easy for me to get one correct
combo !

Thats why I never play with the slots. At least I think the card tables have that human element to them that I like.

Hmmmm...interesting conclusion. Is it correct?
Yes. Mechanical systems often use a cyclical payout, but digital machines can use random number generators which means every play has an equal chance. The specifics vary from vendor to vendor and operator to operator.
