Well an offer came up that I couldn't refuse.... $500 (sorry last one). And while I don't have a high def TV nor any ps3 games it was too good of a price to pass up.

Love the fact that it reads mp3 and mpegs.

Love that you can adjust the FF speed unlike the ps2.

It's cool that it handles SA CD as a I have one of those.

HAven't bothered trying a blue ray dvd yet. Will you notice a marked increase in quality over a DVD without an HD TV?

Anyways, a good buy and with 60 gigs I can pretty much have the bulk of my mp3 library thrown onto the machine. Porn I'll just keep on DVDs, no need for nephews or neices to stumble onto that. :D

Definitely worth the price. $805 at futureshop is too much but this was a price that I was sure not to see again for a while so I figured I had to act quick. Buddy was looking to unload it quick to get some cash and he still had the box, books etc.

Look forward to getting 07 bball and Tekken 6 eventually.

Not crazy about the short usb cable between the controller and machine. My only complaint so far.

Okay one more complaint.... no way to transfer info from ps2 memory card to ps3.

I hate that short USB cable. I'm thinking of buying a new one. Toysrus has ones that are 9 ft long for $10.

There is also an adapter available for the ps2 memory card. I think its like $20 and it connects through the usb slot.

Yeah I noticed those accessories when I was surfing. This is great as the adaptor will allow me to hook up the guncon, guitar, ddr pad, ps2 controllers and transfer all my games.

One drawback that I've noticed is the choppy playback of mpegs from a burned dvd.

I actually haven't noticed that, but to be fair, I don't think I've played too many burned dvds in my PS3. I have seen a noticible pause in play back when the disc reaches the second layer though.

DVD video playback is fine I meant a DVD with MPEGs on it. Naturally I was going to test out the machines porn capabilities. :D Unfortunately the playback of the mpeg from the dvd was choppy (the audio was smooth but the video was more like a slide show).

Not a fan of all the extra things you have to buy (e.g. memory card adaptor for ps2 cards.... why not just include one more slot.... htey already have a number of slots for various cards anyways?).

Well at least the only thing left to worry about is HDMI cables but that won't be needed until I get a HDTV.

So far I've found nba 2007 and gundam crossfire to be entertaining but aside from better graphics you wouldn't know that you are playing a ps3 game.

I agree, there is nothing in the gameplay to distinguish a ps2 game from a ps3 game. If you want innovation get a Wii, if you want the bells and whistles get a PS3 or XBox 360. I have a Wii and PS3 and I'm happy with both.

Just be careful with extended USB cables. Apparently they lose performance as they get longer. Under 10 feet, I think you should be okay.
