Crawled out from under the rock I'd been hiding under. I can understand why it won game of the year award. Lots of variety (fighting on ground and in air, climing, swimming, jumping, swinging on ropes, magic, interesting story line)..... problems to solve, hack and slash fighting, lots of cool ideas (e.g. finishing off the bosses), really creates a dramatic feel through fantastic scenes.

The only problem with the game is that it gets frustrating when you get stuck either trying to complete a series of jumps, not knowing where to go next or how to beat the bosses. A challenge is good but having to replay the same scene over and over again can get a bit much.

But just grab a walk through. Although I prefer to not look at it until I hit that frustration point.

Funniest part so far is when you have sex with the two women on the boat. You basically have to complete a series of buttons as they flash on the screen. Very funny. But don't expect anything graphic all the sex happens off the screen.

This is a great game and one of my favourites on the PS2. It doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but it's just so polished and well presented which makes you forgive some of the shortcomings. The boss battles were too few and far in between, but the Hydra and Minotaur were definitely amazing. The action was also relentless.

There's ridiculous amounts of blood and gore, but controlling the anti-hero Kratos was a refreshing touch. You're absolutely right Frank, the boat scene where you are pleasuring the women was too funny, especially when the vase falls down indicating you were successful in that mini-game.

Yep. great game. But I missed that mini game. I just told the ladies to get out :(

GOW 2 is out in October I think

Guess YMMV applies to vid games too.

Normally I just stick to sports games, retro games, fighting/wrestling games, and puzzle games. The whole first person and thrid person genres I generally avoid. Partly because for some reason these games make me nauseous (e.g. doom, quake, wolfenstein, tomb raider, GTA, medal of honour, even yes god of war etc). I find I can only play for short periods of time...... probably a good thing.

Anyways, yes I agree that very little new stuff was added to the genre but for me fighting the bosses in those mini games game me dragon's lair/space ace flashbacks.

But the game is so slick in it's presentation.
