its not powerlines... Its a hybrid RF as Strongbeau has said. yes it is a bit slower but it is convienient to say the least. Fido was trialing this before Rogers bought them and Rogers finished off the roll out. There is no powerline products in Canada at the moment but there is testing happening in many parts of the country.

I believe this is based on wireless, WiMAX maybe, but WiMAX should have higher/better bandwidth, anyone can confirm?

It is not WiMAX but another form of wireless broadband. WiMAX is still in trials globally.

The system is part of the Inukshuk Initiative. In Toronto it is built and maintained by Rogers, but shares the bandwidth with Bell.

Currently it is "portable" in the sense that you can take your cable-modem type receiver (115VAC) around town and have it work. Notebook PCMCIA cards are not available yet, but will be soon.
