Just wanted to know from you guys which spyware program would you recommend to be the best or at the top of its league.

There are so many out now it seems overwhelming which one to choose.

I have checked out download.com and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal seems to be the most downloaded one whereas there are two others on the list.

MS seems to have their own Windows Defender spyware program. Anybody try this out?

And if you were to uninstall the program down the road will that affect your system seeing as how these programs put certain files in quarantine and wheras it deletes others.

Just curious to know which one would you guys recommend. Or is it simply trial and error.

http://free.grisoft.com not only they give out free antivirus program (AVG Anti Virus) but also free spyware/adware program with automatic daily updates.
It's Ewido, and it's seriously amazing.
Picked up tons of stuff that spybot and ad-aware couldn't find.

There is plenty of spyware programs that install without your consent.
I would suggest you try an Anti-Spyware instead...

I use both Spybot and Ad-aware when my computer begin reacting slower than usual.
Last week, it was terrible and I improved considerably the process time after one run of Spybot Search and Destroy.

Windows Defender is really good. However, it primarly keeps spyware off of your system. If you get some, Counter Spy is nice for removing it.

Has anyone ever had their PC infected by that annoying "Spyquake" spyware?

I did and I used all those programs mentioned in this thread and funny thing was none of them got rid of it which I found astounding.

Windows Defender didn't even detect "spyquake"? WTF?

Anyhoo, the only program that got rid of it for me was Xoftspy.

It got rid of it completely and I am very happy. I will stick with this one folks. :)

How about not using IE (or even netscape). Haven't had a problem since I started using firefox. (I do scan with spybot and spyware doctor - but there's little to catch)

Ad-Aware + Spybot!

Spybot search and destroy along with the Lavasoft Ad-Aware should keep you free of pretty much all spyware out there.
I use these two too, seems very good, and free!
