Looking for a new camera and wanted some advice... hoping to pick up a cheap one for around $250. What is a good brand / model?

Where is a good place to shop - Best Buy, Future Shop....?

Go to www.imaging-resource.com and check out "Dave's picks". There's also a giude which asks you questions about what your particular needs are and helps recommend a camera for you.

From there I would suggest going onto ebay and buying the camera you want from a reputable Canadian seller. You'll get a better price. Only buy new, refurb is OK just make sure you get full Canadian manufacturer's warranty. I have bought two cameras this way with no problems. My last camera I had someone pick up for me in the US and sneak it back in, saved me $150 (this is when the dollar was at $0.75).

I'd suggest you look at the Canon A430.

I agree, Canon is a good choice. I own Nikons and recommend them too.

You may also want to invest in software like Photoshop Elements to touch-up your images.

Canon all the way. I have used Olympus, Minolta, Pentax, Fuji, Kodak (shudder) and Nikon. In the end I always come back to Canon. With Nikon a close second and Kodak being dead last.

Between here and there.
......agree with the Sony, Nikon and Canon camp. Any one of these brands of digi-camera in the same price range is comparable to each other and usually better than the other cameras in the same class.

I've personally owned various models of Sony, Canon, Panasonic and Kodak digi-cameras. The best is the Sony, even though it wasn't the most expensive - best picture quality and ease of use. The worst is the Kodak - worst picture quality.

Unless you're looking for hardcore, really high-end cameras and equipment, FS and BB has some decent prices on the low and mid range stuff (forgive me for recommending FS and BB......).

I bought a Sony and I absolutely love it. But then I'm not into photography heavily. I just want snaps of my vacation. I began to check it out using the manual but found that I didn't even need the instruction booklet.
