Try out and learn to use BitTorrent. Bogus files like what you got can't be put on BitTorrent.
Do a search for BitTorrent on this board, there is plenty of info on it I believe here and in the Lounge.

Soulseek www.slsknet.org is another good music alternative.

I've gotten thousands of tunes over Limewire, maybe 3 or 4 were bad files.
Just try another one.

I wasn't able to crack into Soulseek very easily, it's a closed community that you need to cultivate a bit before you get accepted but it's a great resource once you're in there.

The trick to Soulseek is 'sharing'.
Just create a folder of at least 250 mp3 songs to share with others there and you are in like Flynn.......;)
They can be very helpful if you share and don't like helping those who don't have many mp3's to share. You can also PM members back & forth in Soulseek requesting songs.
I have a CD full of about 300 various songs I pop in to share when using Soulseek and have had no problems in the past when using Soulseek.

I had a folder with about a thousand songs, it took a few weeks before I was somewhat accepted. Maybe they were too obscure and hard to find oldies, but that's what I was looking for.
Most people don't have my patience.

Or...

...you could just buy the damn things.

It is really worth that much effort to download a song you could buy for 99 cents?

or www.allofmp3.com where you buy for around 10 cents per song (depending on what quality you choose - I like cd quality 320kbps, which costs a bit more, but still not much more than 18-20 cents per song)....never had any bad files, and it has a good search function.

please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't sites like that generally in places like Russia. And as such, from a copywrite persepctive, aren't they considered pretty much the same thing as the P2P sites like Limewire. Sure you may "feel" good that you've paid somethig for it, but it still isn't a "legal" download.

I'm not trying to slag downlaoding music here, just asking if there is indeed a difference?

Good point.
That Russian site is undercutting what the RIAA and Hollywood would want you to have to spend and the 'powers to be' don't like this at all and are working to stop it. Kinda similar to what Venezuela's Hugo Chavez said he was going to do by sending very cheap oil & gasoline to the US! The 'powers to be', BIG OIL, here would have nothing to do with this and stopped it .....you know undercutting them & their greed and want Bush to put a stop to that even start a war if neccessary!.......:D

Gotta protect Big Oil's bottom line first, ya know..........

If I go out and buy a CD, I'll pay $10-$20 for a CD that has 10-20 tracks on it. Of those tracks, I'll probably only like 3 at most. Therefore, I've wasted somewhere along the lines of $7-$17 to get one song that I really wanted (and three tracks that are pretty decent). Even then, the RIAA wants to restrict what I use it for (and the RIAA is usually a bellweather for what the CRIA ends up doing). They argue that I can't burn another copy of the CD for personal use or rip it and put it on my iPod (or other MP3 player).

I could go online and purchase it, but what if the commercial services don't carry the song(s) that I want (like, if I wanted to buy Beatles songs, I'm not going to find them on iTunes). Or if they do, are they going to restrict me in how I use it? You can't hop on iTunes, purchase a song for $0.99 and play it on an MP3 player that isn't an iPod.

So really, IMHO, purchasing is not always the answer. Yes, artists should get paid, but the music industry as a whole should rethink their business model in order to ensure that this happens.

Another good one is bit-comet. You can find it at www.download.com
If you're after torrent stuff, Azerus is a good one too. Just not as good as P2P if no one puts up a torrent to a tracker. Better for more recent or mainstream stuff
