Last night my drive crashed. It says Invalid system disk. press any key. when I do it says boot failure. The drive has two partitions. The data on the second part is all there. The C drive the FAT is gone. It describes it as RAW instead of FAT32 or NTFS. Is the drive toast? How can the FAT just disappear like that? Is all the info gone?

Any help please.

Thanks

Not too sure if the info is gone but when my HD crashed I bought a newer/faster one with more memory installed windows etc on it and then used it as the HD to start my computer and then read off the data from the crashed drive.

There are probably cheaper things you might want to try first since I don't know if this will even work in your case.

But in my case it was the operating system that was messed up so I was able to rescue the data.

The hard drive on my windows box went inaccessable so I took it out and put it in my Linux machine. I have to trouble at all reading it from there, but I can't write to the NTFS partition, just the FAT one. So my advice to you is to put your cranky drive in your Linux box and hopefully rescue your work from there.

What? You don't have a Linux machine? Imagine you considered yourself a mighty fine trucker yet had never driven a diesel and knew nothing about them. Real geeks use real software, not Microsoft toy software. So go to distroWatch.com and download some real power for under your hood.
