Hi I was wondering if any of you have downloaded off of Bit Comet. I downloaded Family Guy, it said it was "ipod formated". Does anyone know what this means? Anyway, when I go to play it I only get audio, no video. Also, won't show up on my DVD burner. I also have a pop up that says, AVC demo expired. Due to patent restrictions, AVC decoding/encoding is no longer available. Then it goes on about purchasing Nero 7 software for $55. US. I have Nero 6. Anyone, have any ideas to play this without purchasing, or would purchasing even help? Anything at download.com or anything. Thanks.

It seems like the file have been formatted and can only be played on iPod (H.264 QuickTime Format, to be exact).

To play it back outside iPod or PSP, you'll need the latest version of ffdshow supports H264 playback. You can get it from here. Remember, ffdshow is a DirectShow filter so after you install it you'll be able to play H264 in most video players you already have installed, including Windows Media Player.

Alternatively you can download VideoLAN player from here. It can play H264 without need of any codec or DirectShow filter.

Nero Showtime (available in Nero 7) and Apple Quicktime 7 support H264 too, but their support is not so great for all formats (they play better H264 content that was created using Nero Recode or Quicktime 7 Pro) so I don't suggest using them for general H264 playback.

Currently there is no converter from H.264 back to MPEG-2 (I assume you want to create a DVD from it)

See, the thing is H.264 is a severely compressed data, so the best theoretical thing you can do is interpolate an mpeg-2 vector-field from the H.264 vectors, but this interpolated field will most likely be of minimal use, as the motion search in both codecs is not based on actual motion, but rather on a search for a nearby block that has the lowest comparison metric (usually sum of absolute differences, or sum of squared errors which is a tad more noise-tolerant).

This means you could end up with a very fugly video indeed, and most likely with more effort required than just a straight conversion.
