memory question

I've got 1 GB DDR @ 266. I recently upgraded my PC with a CPU that can handle faster memory speeds. I'm thinking of replacing my memory with 1 GB DDR @ 400. What kind of performance boost can I expect? Does getting faster memory make that much of an impact or am I better of spending the money elsewhere?

Thanks

The chipset will determine percentage so if the system came with PC2100, you'd probably only get 3-6% increase. Not worth it.

I have an Asus P4P800-E DLX w/Intel 865E chipset. Supposedly supports PC2100/2700/3200. I have PC2100 right now and thinking of going to 3200. Just trying to figure out the benefits of doing so. The only reason why I have PC2100 is because the PC the memory it came with had an older motherboard which I then upgraded to the P4P800-E. I also just upgraded the CPU. Now just trying to figure out if I should upgrad memory at all.

Don't bother on that board. The next time you'll upgrade, you'll go to DDR2 (or something newer).

unless you changed your motherboard that will dictate the amount and speed of ram that you can put in your pc. With some boards if you put a 400bus chip but the bus speed on your board is 266 the 400 ram will drop down to work at 266 so u just end up wasting your money untill you upgrade and then use the ram somewhere else
