I have Windows 98 and when I open Word by clicking on the short cut or an exisitng document, the program freezes at the "Word" picture that appears just before the program normally opens. The white box warning message says system is dangerously low on resources and I have to manually shut down the computer. All my Adobe products (photoshop, illustrator and pagemaker) work fine, as does the internet. I still seem to have plenty of space available, and nothing (as far as space is concerned) changed form the day before when it worked, to the day it did not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

This might fix your problem if you have a corrupt normal.dot file ( since you say the problem only occurs with Word). Locate the normal.dot file using Find files..most likely it might be in C:\Documents and settings\Application data\Microsoft\Templates. Once found, rename it to oldnormal.dot
Then start MS word from the start menu>>all programs and it will create a new normal.dot file

Took me a bit of time to get around to this, but the above worked. Thanks so much!!
