Wank Punter in LA

So I see that this ill-named group - boy, they'll go a LONG way with a name like that; it's not even a hip name, like the Toronto band Holy Fuck.

And how much do they have to pay to get a gig at the Whiskey in LA, notorious for charging bands to play in clubs that have long since lost their lustre?

Tell that to Playboy and all the others who have come calling (including mainstream interests). :D

Nothing. lol

It's a performance guarantee contract - big dif from a 'pay-to-play' gig. Meaning, if we don't sell a certain number of seats, we have to cover the difference. Why, are you jealous?

Jealousy?

Marshall Stack has a great name. The band tht he shill doesn't. I suggested that the band was doing a pay-for-play gig in LA; he denies that. Well, if the gig for the Playboy channel, and a gig at the Whiskey, come even CLOSE to paying the costs, I'll be amazed.

Am I jealous, Marshall asks. Not a bit. The artists I work with are all doing very nicely here, In Australia, the UK and the US, and not playing either for the Playboy folks or the dismal hole that the Whiskey is in LA is, or was the lst time I ws there two years back.

Of course, none of my artists are, or are called, Wank Punters.

Ummm. Pardon me for being presumptuous... and with all due respect to the band Holy Fuck (seeing as you brought them up as an example), your retort is as solid as Canadian softwood lumber (don't take that personally *ahem*).

If you are a successful industry 'player', I can't understand why you'd have the need to argue with me, let alone post the comments that you have. Not that I was actually competing with you or anything. I find this all rather entertaining and somewhat telling of your insecurities. Ya got me curious now. lol

If you ARE a player, then you and I must surely know some of the same people, no? The biz is a very small network, as you probably know.

Further, a real player would never make such a boastful retort as you have without providing clear evidence to substantiate his claim that he indeed felt he was superior as egos in mainstream entertainment hold no bounds and no one is exempt from this fact. lol

Perhaps. But by the very definition of the name YOU are. So what's you're point? :D

I take it, that Holy Fuck is one of your bands? Any others you care to mention?

Jut for the record, I have no connection with the band at all; met the leader at a party once (nice guy, with many other projects). For what it's worth, I thought their name sucked too - I wuz wrong, and admit it.

I still don't find Wank Punter as amusing a name as does Angelina, but as Sly Stone said a few decades ago (or it seems like that long) "different strokes for different folk." And gigs at the Whiskey (or the Playboy mansion) simply don't impress me; they're not REAL, even if outsiders might be impressed.

Marshall sez I must be insecure to even comment on his band's name, although I don't see why; it's not like I'm in competition with the Wank Punters. However, I agree - damn right I'm insecure. In fact, I suggest, after doing this for a l-o-n-g time, that insecurity is vital. Get complacent, get smug, get cocky and the music biz will bite your ass.

Nose to the grindstone, ear to the ground, know who's who and who does what, don't lie, don't over-hype, know yur music history, and don't stop working - and you MIGHT make a living.

But it's all much more fun than most things!

Riiiiiight.

Now if that comment wasn't disengenuous... lol

How about admitting the fact that the name offends you and perhaps might be a little too close for comfort. Would it make you happier if I chose the name: Nasty Whores? or something to that effect? Funny when the shoe is on the other foot and how some guys react to it. A little self-deprecating humour never hurt anybody (unless you're insecure...).

Whatever...

For someone to misconstrue insecurity as being a vital, positive personality trait and confidence as cockyness or complacency, I can see why you didn't get the joke of what Wank Punter is all about.

Here's my interpretation:

Insecure = lack of confidence
confidence= knowing what you are doing, aware of your abilities

Irony is a funny thing, don't cha think? As for knowing your music history, words such as hip to describe what is cool went out with the psychedelic 60's (just so ya know, that was over 40 years ago). Wearing ponytails is equated to much the same: that of being dated. If you actually think kids look at that and see it as 'hip' (remember the word hippie?) It appears that YOU have much to learn.

As for nose to the grindstone, it's obvious you have no idea who you are talking to. Hype? I call it like it is. As for making a living, I'm building a state-of-the art production facility and rehearsal suite for the band and other personal projects. I just finished the music for a trailer that's going to Cannes and was produced by a very well known director. Those who know me personally can verify this as fact and there are several of them here on this forum. Bottom line, I'm not a wanna-be like YOU. I know what I'm doing and know how to go about getting it done.

So in short, grow up, get a hair cut, and if ya wanna study the biz, subcribe to Bob Lefsetz for an eye-opening education. But seriously, a man of your age aught to be retired by now, especially if you had ANY success in life.

Wow, everyone is so nice on this board. I'm glad to see people dont have pent up anger. Great to see that grown men still have respect nowadays. (ouch)

no pent up anger here. but reading this guy blathering on about how great this band is doing makes me laugh. and their music is pretty lame to boot.

None taken. Unless of course, you're the arbiter of what succeeds in the industry or have the wherewithal to speak on behalf of the masses. Seeing as either is clearly not the case, you haven't hurt my feelings. :p

Guess I pushed another button... lol

Guess you can't read either. Nowhere have I stated how great I think this band is. I merely posted info that they are appearing in the near future. Old age creeping up? Better get them bifocals.

Indeed I have. I produced them. And yes, I think they're pretty good but that's just my opinion. I prefer to let their stats and minor successes speak for themselves though.

Unlike Muddy's attempt to compare apples to cuccumbers, they seem to hold their own as far as internet traffic is concerned when compared to similar-styled acts that have had international success:

ZZ Top:

Wank Punter:
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=www.wankpunter.com

That's just one example.

at least you are smart enough to compare them to a band that hasn't done anything since the 80's.

and how is zztop anything like these punters?

oh and do you still think you are "pushing buttons" or just getting the lint out of your own belly button?

Bout time ya got it. Parody/Comedy music typically pillages the genre of the previous generations. Why? Cause it reaches a potentially wider demographic. This is no different. Which is why it seems to attract people of all ages. No one in the band looks upon this as some serious artistic statement and neither should you. Those who actually get it, realize this and laugh along with the band. It's blatant tongue-in-cheek cheese. But more than anything, it was meant to be fun.

Lol. Whatever Ruben. Or is it RU.K?

BTW, don't you find it amusing that the idiot savantes over on that pariah forum you reside over continue to address the fake handle there of Marshall Stack? Kind'a like talking to yourself, no? I see you threw in a comment recently as well. This coming from the guy who claimed it wasn't me, although you were quite right in that assessment. Life must be a real drag for you. Pity... lol
