My computer is a Dell pentium4, with 384MB SDRAM.

When I have several windows open, it suddenly frezes. I bring the task mngr., and cannot end any of the programs running (they indicate as "not responding").
Eventually, after 5 min. or more, all the programs close, and I must start I.E. again. Sometimes, the only way to get out of it is to press the shutdown button on the computer.

This is becoming to be quite a nuisance. Any suggestion as what might cause this problem.

I run Norton A/V and Ad-aware, and detect no virus or spyware.

Is this problem only happening when connected to the Internet?
Have you tried using other browsers such as Firefox or Opera?
Download another antivirus program such as AVG free or Clamwin and run a scan in Safe Mode (F8 when booting up)

Try uninstalling word or the whold package(if it's and office pkg)and then reinstall. Chances are it has gotten corrupted somehow. Also if you can try to download a file call normal.dot and add to registry. If you have excel and powerpoint, do they work properly?

Just my thoughts.

I mentioned earlier, I have reformated the drive and reinstalled xp, that also included all application software, i.e. Microsoft Office

Hi Raydeon, remove the original memory and run the PC with the memory you have just added. Let's see how it goes.
Original memory is gone, no room to keep it.

No change.
