I don't watch much tv, but I figure 'holmes homes' and 'the dog' would look cool in HD, plus I have a deal on it and the $200 value starter kit I got with my TV.

My concern is, can I still have SD cable signal in other rooms and will I need to unhook the [uuuh] splitter [to the other 3 TVs] for rogers to "hook me up".

HD runs on standard cable and the only thing that is different is that the Box that you get from Rogers is a HD box and that attaches only to your HD TV....the rest of the TV's are as is. But if you have too much splitting from the one cable by the time the signal gets to the HD box it may be too weak and you may not get the necessary strength to give you the best HD picture.

solution

When you use a splitter your sginal will "drop" and get weaker, the result will be a picture which my not display properly or at all (blank screen).

Solution:
I used a "signal booster" from homedepot. I have split the signal and the quality is excellent.

Don't buy cheap, you get what you pay for.

Holmes won't look any different as it was not filmed in HD.

The signal is the same throughout the homje, the set toip box that decodes the signal makes it HD.

It will be a while before the digital cable channels are HD. Right now they will be running the normal video on an HD channel, if indeed they have one.

thanks for the replies ... I actually have a booster that I got years ago - I just recall it taking a while to find one that's not too powerful or too weak.

I didn't realise so few channels are actually HD - ya'd think A&E and HGTV would be HD, even if A&E ain't the high brow channel it used to be.

So, we're talking an HD box much like the old pay TV box deal - I'm unclear on what a high definition terminal "option" entails. Obviously everything must be HD or why bother.

Pool, glad to hear you're not stuck with the imprinted Demo.

Discovery has a new show, Canada's Worst Handyman. Even Weather network has Jon Stewart for homeowner repair tips.

I've a small HD-ready tv but holding out from few HD channels and I understand not all shows broadcast in HD.

There are a lot of shows broadcast in HD. Almost every show on all the major US networks during prime time are in HD, except for reality shows. Sports are still very limited. It all depends on the network and if the stadium has HD equipment.
Most people don't know how much there really is. It all depends on what you watch too.
