I thought I'd ask about getting rid of the sites that show up in the address bar at the top of the screen.

Even when typing the first letter in the bar all of the sites I thought I was being careful to not have show up there are there.

Must have not been careful enough.

How does one remove these remembered sites from there, if possible?

Many thanks in advance.

Griz

I'll check the search because I think I asked about this once before, it sucks getting older, I should really try to look after myself better!

Tools --> Internet Options -->

Set 'Days to keep pages in History' to 0.

Click on Apply.

Clink on Ok.

I think this means that won't happen. You may need to reboot, but I haven't tested it. May be worth a try.

Tools.
Internet Options.
Delete files, Delete cookies, Clear History.

Also....
Tools.
Internet Options.
Content.
Autocomplete.
Clear Forms. Clear Passwords.

I realize this might be overkill but these steps should clear most traces of what you've been looking at.

Do this after sessions of porn surfing or whatever you want to hide and you should be okay.

If it's a work computer. My advice is just don't use it because they may have more advanced techniques for tracking your computer use. But as for your home PC this should be good enough.... unless someone is really spying on you.

Tthanks

For all your advice thanks!

I tried going to tools-history etc., put 0 for days to remember
and deleted temp files and cookies but did not reboot.

The addy's were still in the bar, so I'll try again and reboot.

Let you know.

Also it was suggested I get windows washer for 60 dollars.

Close all browser windows, then run regedit and go to
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs\
and delete the item(s) from the right pane.

You also forgot to delete history...the only problem with doing this is that you delete ALL your history. So if there are sites that you frequent that you don't want to remove, you're fuct.....You'll have to memorize these addresses...

What you are looking for is a program called auto complete. You will find it in the tools dir. You need to get there and turn it off.

But this one made me drop to the floor in convulsions.

Dude if you're using this method as your cover you are so busted by now and probably don't even know it.

OK setting the days to zero does two things.
1. When you choose to clear the history - everything is purged -- nothing is retained..
2. If you don't clear the history then nothing is purged -- ever.

Ask yourself this question: Which is easier?

A) Downloading and using Firefox? Or
B) parting with 1/2 your assets.

Webroot - Window Washer

For $20 or $30 US you can purchase a product called Window Washer by software company Webroot. This will clear all of those pesky tracks and trails, including bits and pieces stored randomly on your hard drive even after you have "deleted" all of your history files and temp files.

www.webroot.com

The "budget" alternative would definitely be switching to Firefox or Internet Explorer's latest release.

Make sure that your copy/paste buffer doesn't contain anything incriminating by copying something "legal" (or rebooting of course).

Don't forget media player history lists. Even when the option is disabled, frequently the last video title is displayed

Don't forget Recent Files list also.

For Internet Explorer, the program IE Privacy Keeper works quite well. It cleans out the index.dat files, your media player histories (Real, WMP, Quicktime, Word, Adobe Reader, WinZip etc.)
