Recently it seems as though my luck has failed me and on two separate occasions appointments I have made with SPs well in advance have been cancelled at the last minute.

To the board I ask the question:

How do you respond to the famous question when an appointment is cancelled by an SP?

"I hope you'll let me make it up to you." or even more difficult to answer, "What can I do to make it up to you?"

I know I have my opinions but I'm really interested in hearing what everyone else thinks.

Okay here goes...

It appears as though Samantha will be joining us for the entire week after all!
Francesca is coming for the full week as is Celeste.
The ladies will be coming on Sunday night but our first set of appointments will be on Monday morning. As mentioned beforehand our hours of operation are 10am to 9pm and our rates are $240 per hour (no half hour appointments). We will do our best to accomodate last minute appointments but please understand that they might not be possible.
Also, on our last trip we encountered a number of time wasters and no shows; please remember that this is NOT like a dinner reservation, this is someones time. I am not saying that these were Terb Members but maybe a few are.
Anyhow... we will also have our Ottawa number posted in our ads closer to the date so you wont have those pesky long distance charges showing up on your phone bills.
Looking forward to our return and watch out Philip Van Leewan and Zaphod... this time I am going to have more fun then I did last time! Mahhh haa haa haa!!!

Hey babe, being one that did mess up on you, I am sorry.... I did my best to make it up and all I can offer is my apologies..... I always try to make the appointments, but for me sh*t happens and I mess up... No excuses and prefer not to explain, but I do try.....

Hey all,
I'm not trying to turn this into a bashing post. I'll admit that when I posted this i was a little dissapointed however I wasn't looking to name names or get into details about particular SPs or events. I just thought that it would be a good opportunity to hear what both SP's and hobbyists expectations are when an appointment is cancelled last minute.

Stace,

We all love you in Ottawa despite your shit. I really didn't mean for this to bring up the past which by the way I'm totally cool with!

Faith/Trust relationship

"I hope you'll let me make it up to you." or even more difficult to answer, "What can I do to make it up to you?"

I know I have my opinions but I'm really interested in hearing what everyone else thinks.

This is a classic example of a faith/trust relationship. You start as two parties who do not know each other and begin by making an agreement to meet. At this point you don't have any experience with each other and thus there is only faith that you will each meet your end of the bargain. If that faith turns out to be founded and is rewarded, a little trust is built. If that faith is not rewarded, both faith and trust(if there is any) are diminished. When there is no faith left there is no possibility to build trust.

how much your faith is diminished by someone not meeting their end of the bargain is a personal thing and I think it's also dependent on the reason for the breach in the agreement. If you see the other person's reason as valid ( i.e. the kind of thing that under similar circumstances you would make the same decision ) you likely would not have your diminished too much.

I think that it's inappropriate for the person who broke the agreement to ask the other "what they can do to make it up to them" without offering some suggestions of their own. If they aren't willing to offer suggestions of their own its just a rhetorical question and kind of token apology they don't expect you to really answer. How many would feel comfortable asking for a 25% discount on the next appointment if the SP were not willing to offer it ? What kind of response to do you think you'd get from the SP ?

I don't like to make appointments with SP's. I call, and if they're not available at the moment, I call the next one.

I hear you but with girls coming in from out of town and on special occassions I like to secure the appointment. Especially when they ask for appointments to be booked in advance. It looks like securing the appointment isn't really a good choice of words. Nothing in life is secure!
