Hi ,

does anyone have a link to a good tutorial for setting up a router. I have a linksys befsr41 router that I'm trying to setup . most of the networking guides I've seen are general networking tutorials.

I'm having trouble getting the router to accept the password . every time I put it in and hit enter it just brings me back to the same popup that asks for the password. when I checked the remember my password box , it then shows a red screen that says unauthorized access ... password incorrect .

I've tried resetting the router , to try to get it back to the default setting of 'admin' for password , but no go .

If anyone familiar with setting up networks or even if you've just done a home network has anything to say , I'd be glad to hear it.

linksys tech support is great, I had some problems on set up , called them & was up & running in minutes.

I had success in the past with Linksys tech support, currently I use a Sympatico router and they were helpful as well.
If you're trying to reset it to default, is there a tiny button on the back you can press?

Personally I've never had this problem with my router, (same model). Let's try to clarify things a bit here. Are you trying to get into the router brand new straight out of the box factory settings, as in with no password? Or did you change the password and now can't get in with your password? You should be able to reset the router to factory settings by pressing the little reset button on the back of the unit. This will reset the username to nothing (leave the field completly blank, no spaces, nothing)

Have you updated your firmware recently and that has caused the problem? If so your router might be a doornail (as in dead)

Does the router have a usb option (some do)? Where you can connect your router to your computer's usb port and access it that way and change the settings.

Pressing the button once does just a plain reset.

Holding the button down for something like 4-10 secoonds resets everything back to factory default.

I had a Linksys router and it was a problem from the beginning. After many attampts to get the problem sorted out with Sympatico and Linksys I decided to go with Sympatico's Speedstream router and it has worked perfectly.

Dump the Linksys.

If you have a firewall installed..MS or Norton..it's interfering with the router commands. Turn off all firewall's and then set your router. You can also do this from the "safe mode" in XP. On reboot your firewalls will detect the router and all will be fine.

thanks guys ,

I called linksys and got it working . I just had to start the modem before turning on the router. I can't believe it was that simple .
