Which program is best to burn (convert)divx movies to DVD?
I have tried the latest version of Nero and everytime I get an error. I suppose it has to do with the compression of the divx file.

Any suggestions?

First go to http://www.doom9.net/

Get the following programs from the download page

1. VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 - use this progam to join 2 or more .avi files into a single file. (just select video - stream copy, then load cd1, then append cd2 and save.)
2. DVD2VCD - Does it all (Use the Guides-VCD/SVCD-DVD2SVCD page for downloads and instruction)
3. CCE SP - Cinema Craft Encoder SP Encoder for DVD2VCD ( get trial version or find copy using newzbin.org or packetnews.com)
3. ImgBurn 1.2.0.0 - use this program to rip or burn the DVD (DVD Decrypter continued)

Note: Install DVD2SVCD last, and install the D2SRoBa 3.80 plugin option.

Note: You will need 25G of free HD space before starting.

Follow the DVD2SVCD guide , but essentially you perform the following steps;
i) join the avi files using VirtualDub
ii) start the D2SRoBa plugin application
iii)select CD size and GO (DVD-R = 4464 DVD+R=4350) ***Know your burner type!!!
iv) DVD2SVCD will now launch - Under the Misc tab select your input (AVI) and output (DVD) file types - Under the Conversion tab browse for your avi file.
v) Next select output aspect and screen size by selecting from the aspect ratio out box, and the AVI AR 1:1. You can view the output format from a preview option on the GO button.
vi) GO !!!!

VCD2SCVD will extract the audio track, and decode it; extract the video and decode to mpeg2; convert the audio to 5:1, convert the video size and aspect; multiplex the audio and video; DVD Author to .ifo and .vob, insert chapters and then create a .iso image to burn.

vi) open ImgBurn, hit "W" to write to DVD, select image and burn.

You will need to have the latest codecs to make all this work. You can't do any better than the K-Lite Mega codec Pack from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

The included Media Player Classic is a fantastic player, plays DVDs, links to your AC3 filters and also come with FFDShow video filtering for post processing. (but that's pretty advanced for most). It also has the added bonus of not requiring those damn certificates that bring popups.

This is a bit involved but the quality is second to none. Once you have done a few you're hooked.

...or you could just buy a DVD player that supports DIVX...but I would want to be sure it was upgradeable.
