ISO: Portable LCD Monitor

I have an old laptop that I use while travelling.

Just need to surf the net with it; no games, no video production, etc.

The LCD on this laptop looks like it's about to go; there are random green pixels which show up on the screen from time to time.

Is there such thing as a portable LCD monitor to connect to this laptop? If so, can anyone recommend a manufacturer and model number?

Would it be cheaper to buy a new (cheapest one there is) laptop or buy this portable LCD monitor?

Go with a new laptop all together. I mean it would make more sense to do that. One day when you do decide to buy a new laptop, then you will be stuck with a LCD screen standing alone. Plus anything portable like that would be pretty small and probably a pain in the ass to carry. Just go with a tiny cheap laptop that is convenient to carry. I myself have a Fujitsu Lifebook P5010. This thing is about the size of standard size A4 peice of paper and about an inch thick. I replaced the CD-ROM slot with an extra battery on top of the standard battery. Gives me about 9 hours usage time. Great for woorking on long flights or when you have no access to a power source.

Yeah, that is what I will probably end up doing.

I was just hoping to get a $200 monitor instead of a $500+ laptop.

The only portable LCD displays I've seen are the ones designed for use in cars and minivans. Just out of curiosity, can those be connected to a laptop?

I think you would have to do some scrummaging for the right adapter. I think this is where the problem will lie. Don't bother though, just stick to getting the new laptop.

they are right...

besides the expense, also think of the extra strain of carrying an LCD. An lcd weighs +/ 5 kg plus the weight of the power supply and the weight of the lcd bag to protect the lcd.

Just research a nice IBM/Fujitsu laptop.

If you are price concious, you can get a refurbed/used IBM.
