So what is everyone going to do on Valentine's Day? This is a day set aside for love, passion and romance. I know that I'm going to celebrate it with a very special someone.

What kind of gifts did you buy for your favourite lady, SO or girlfriend?

And what kind of gifts do you ladies prefer? Roses, chocolates, lingerie, perfume, or going out for dinner and a movie?

Wishing you all a Happy St. Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day is all about marketing... greed and money. You should show your love for your SO every day of the year... and not one specific day that you're being told you have to.

That's so true calloway. But it is nice to remember if one can avoid some of the commercialism, to try to make it a 'wee' bit special for your lady on the feast day of St. Valentine.

The Valentine's card was a tradition started in Victorian England and is still with us today. You can always make your own as I used to when I was in school. It was always fun.

But I agree today, in North America especially, all of our 'special' days, whether it be Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. have become overly commercialized.

That is so true! However, in the hustle and bustle of everyday life (work, kids, bills, housework, etc.) it's just a reminder to appreciate and respect the one you love.
I agree that it's the "little things" that truly show your S/O how you feel about him/her. There are soooo many ways one can show appreciation and love for another.

I'm not one for expecting fancy gifts on Valentine's Day, but it is nice to have an excuse to get a babysitter and treat yourselves to a romantic dinner (just the two of us.......wow!), and maybe surprise my S/O with some sexy new lingerie ;)

You are right. Society has made us expect things. We should never have expectations for material things from the ones we love. When they give us a card or something small it should be appreciated. It is about what they say or what they do, not what they give us. Just spending quality time together.

The act of gift giving will mean nothing if it only occurs on a "specific day" on the calendar. BUT, if the giver of such gifts gets extreme delight with the act of giving, then there are no expectations involved. The result is both parties are delighted.
