I just bought a laptop and I was picking up networks all over the place, then I did all the Windows and Norton updates, and now I can't detect anything, even right inside a hotspot.

I've tried messing with the firewall settings, but I just can't seem to figure it out.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Ha Ha. I had this same problem. I wasn't getting any internet via my wireless antenna from the wireless router two floors down. It worked and I was getting the internet for like three months. Until one day it stopped recieving internet. I called tech support on this issue like 100,000,000 times. In the end, I gave up and took out the wireless antenna PCI card from computer, tossed it and replaced it with a data cable connection for the internet that stretches two floors down now.

Could be a couple of things.

Is the wireless actually turned on? Usually a switch on the side of the laptop.

Depending on the type of wireless system you're using you sometimes have to enable MS XP to be the wireless system. For instance you may be able to use the "Toshiba" (pick a brand) software if it's a 16 or 28 bit encryption for security, but if it's WPA-PSK you have to use the MS XP system. If it's seeing nothing in terms of wireless systems, recheck the manual, and also make sure the wireless connection is enabled in the system.

Try starting there...others will chime in with other hints.

you might have to switch channels on the router
conditions might have changes and the channel you were using might be interfered with

Same thing, check the wireless is actually on. Some laptops have a physical switch, others use a keyboard sequence like "Fn" and "F2"
